The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting in the hospital library tonight beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the minutes from the February 18^th meeting, Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board with the auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar and legislative issues. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will give the summary of operations and statistics reports for the month of February along with the nursing services and ancillary service reports, followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business there will be a strategic planning update, an updated on the hospital lagoon and the finance committee meeting. In new business, the Board will address the Hospital Foundation Committee as well as hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 34-year old Michael Mehler of Rolla was sentenced to 48 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. Mehler pleaded guilty last December to one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm in December 2008, in Phelps County. Due to his criminal history, he is forbidden by law to own or possess firearms. He appeared for sentencing before United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel. This case was investigated and prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which seeks to prevent violent crime through enforcement of federal firearms laws, such as the law prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms. The Rolla Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol locally investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Pat Judge handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will play Thayer at 4:30 in Salem for 3^rd place in the SCA Tournament. Salem beat Cabool Tuesday, 10-9 and then lost to Houston on Wednesday, 5-0. The regular season play begins on Tuesday when the Tiger travel to Licking.

The City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball/ Softball/T-Ball program last signup will be held today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center located at 1201 West Rolla Road. This will be the FINAL signup. This league is for all boys and girls who are age 4 to 14 as of May 1, 2010. The cost is $15.00 per child. For more info, call 729-6290.

Albert Pujols and Brendan Ryan each hit a solo homer, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-1 win over the New York Mets in a Grapefruit League matchup. Chris Carpenter was superb in the start, allowing only one run, two hits and two walks in six frames while adding seven strikeouts. Trever Miller, Mitchell Boggs and Dennys Reyes combined to pitch three innings of scoreless relief. The Cards play the Washington Nationals today. You can hear this weekends games against the Marlins and Mets on KSMO at noon.

Billy Butler went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in, and Kansas City scored five runs in the ninth inning to beat Seattle, 8-7, in Cactus League play. Kurt Mertins tripled and drove in a pair, while Scott Thorman and Buck Coats each finished with two hits and an RBI for the Royals, whose starter, Edgar Osuna, was touched for four runs on five hits and two walks in three innings. KC plays the LA Dodgers today.

Paul Kariya notched a goal and an assist, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings at Scottrade Center. B.J. Crombeen and T.J. Oshie also tallied for St. Louis, which badly needed the win to keep its slim playoff hopes alive. Chris Mason stopped 30-of-31 shots to pick up the victory. The Blues play the Edmonton Oilers Sunday at 5:00. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that linebacker Derrick Johnson and offensive lineman Ikechuku Ndukwe have signed their restricted free agent tender offers.

Funeral services for Margaret Louise Ellis of Salem, age 63, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Thayer. Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for James S. Gibson of Rolla, age 81, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Victor Baptist Church Cemetery in Anutt with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Anutt Community Church.

Funeral services for Carol Smith of Salem, age 62, and Raymond Smith of Salem, age 72, will be held today at 1:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellington. Interment will be in the Polk Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lloyd E. Pyatt of Fredericktown, age 95, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at Wilson Funeral Home in Fredericktown. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Christian Cemetery in Fredericktown.

Funeral services for Terry Ray Lea of Wildwood, Florida formerly of Salem, age 50, wil be held Sunday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Saturday night. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery.
