An accident happened at 3:00 am Wednesday morning in Dent County on Highway 68 about seven miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Ford Ranger driven by 20-year old Gerald Lucas of Salem was traveling northbound on Highway 68. The Ford ran off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway and then ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Lucas suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Dent County ambulance. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident happened on Route J about three miles east of Oates Wednesday night at 10:45 that left a man from Black, Missouri with serious injuries. According to the highway patrol report, 25-year old Derrick. W. May of Black was driving a 1991 Chevy truck eastbound on Route J when he ran off the right side of the roadway. May overcorrected causing the truck to skid. The Chevy truck then overturned coming to rest on its wheels in the roadway. May suffered serious injuries and was Air Evac’d to the Mineral Area Regional Hospital in Farmington. May was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The pickup was totaled and removed from the scene by Valley Springs Towing of Oates.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving vandalism, property damage, a traffic stop and an accident. On Tuesday, March 24th at 2:00 in the afternoon, a concerned citizen walked in the station to report that an unknown person or persons had broken a glass door to the basement of the Lighthouse Assembly Church located at 1000 Chafin Avenue. The estimated cost of the damage is $150. Although there was damage to the window, no one went inside and took anything. At 3:30 that afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department was contacted in reference to property damage of a smashed mailbox valued at less than $50. At 5:23 on the 24th, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department was contacted in reference to property damage in the 2nd degree. According to the report, someone had squirted ranch salad dressing and broken eggs on the outside and inside of a vehicle. Officers found ranch dressing on the hood of the car that was still there even though is had rained heavily earlier that day. Inside the car were broken eggshells and dried residue on the dash, speedometer and front seats. A traffic stop was conducted at 7:46 that evening on a Camaro where the driver was arrested on warrants out of Reynolds County. A Cash Only Bond of $5,000 was set.  On Wednesday, March 25th at 3:02 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department responded to a traffic accident in which the driver lost control of a Ford Ranger while trying to eat a hamburger. Anyone with any information regarding the vandalism or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Cardinal pocket schedules have arrived and are available around town and at the KSMO Radio Station lobby.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will play in the SCA Tournament semi-finals starting this afternoon at 2:00 at the Salem High School Baseball Field. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday at Mountain View. Salem reached the semi-final with a 14-0 drubbing of Houston on Tuesday.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers face the Memphis T tonight in West Regional of the NCAA Tournament. The winner tonight goes onto play again on Saturday at a time to be announced. Missouri is 30-6 on the year while Memphis has won 27 straight games. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Vancouver Canucks tonight at 7:30. KSMO will join the game in progress after the Candidate Forum tonight at the City Hall Auditorium which starts at 6:30. The Blues have won two straight and are one point out of a playoff spot with nine games remaining. The game will be interrupt for the Missouri Tiger Basketball game due to contractual agreements.

Edwin Maysonet went 2-for-4 with two runs driven in, as the Astros edged the Cardinals, 4-3, in spring training action. Shane Robinson drove in a pair of runs for St. Louis, while Khalil Greene knocked home the other run in defeat. Joel Pineiro went five frames and yielded two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Chris Perez was dealt the loss after giving up a run in the ninth.

The Kansas City Royals had the day off spring training action on Wednesday.

Graveside services for Frank Carlis Heath of Bixby, age 52, will be held this morning at 9:00 at the Pump-Stricklin Cemetery in Iron County. Memorials are suggested to the Heath family. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum.

Funeral services for Herman Woodrow Gibbs of Salem, age 96, will be held this afternoon at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Full Gospel Church.

Funeral services for “Dick” Callie A. Russell of Salem, age 81, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00, with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home.

Visitation for Grace Lorene Hilderbrand of Salem, age 92 will be held Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. There will not be a funeral service. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Senior Center or the Greeley Cemetery.

Funeral services for Wava N. Haas of Salem, age 81, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery in Salem. 

Memorial services for Kay Reitz of St. James, age 85, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Memorial services for Delphia “Reita” Price of St. James, age 78, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Fort Leonard Wood Military Cemetery, at a later date.
