The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams said that CART funds for the year 2014 stand at $150,956 and that is $6,198.80 more than for the same time period as in 2013. CART funds increased $454.90 in the March collection from the February collections. Williams also reported that county has received $4,373.49 from MoDOT for the bridge project over Spring Creek. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2480, 4210, 5410 and 5510; and ditch work was going to be done on county road 4160. Purcell reported that a man would be going to Springfield to get a load of oil for chip and seal repair. Purcell did say that work crews would be putting a culvert extension on Dent County Road 4120. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson was not in attendance due to an illness in his family. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles gave the District 2 report and said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2155, 2303, 2313, 2403, 2270 and 4270. He said that rock would be added to county road 2150 and then it would be graded, and materials would also be added to county road 4280. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles again wanted to remind citizens about the incorrect assessments and credits on CenturyLink phone bills dealing with county sales tax. Skiles encourages citizens to carefully check their phone bills from CenturyLink and if they are incorrect to please contact CenturyLink at 866-519-7885. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said absentee voting would continue until April 7th at the courthouse. Her office will also be open Saturday, April 5th from 8:00 until noon. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, February 28th at 6:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of East Center in reference to an intoxicated subject wanting to fight random people and threatening to go burn houses down. The investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Tuesday, March 4th at 2:53 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a room at the Walnut Motel in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed that a 31-year old Salem male had assaulted a 27-year old Salem male. The 31-year old was arrested for assault while the 27-year old was arrested for disorderly conduct regarding an incident preceding the assault. Both were intoxicated and were issued summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Monday, March 10th at 11:34 in the evening, an officer found that a burglary had occurred at the Lighthouse Assembly Church, located on Chafin Drive. The investigation led to a vehicle stop near Highway 32 and Askins. The stop led to the arrest of a 36-year old Salem male for burglary and stealing items valued at $487. He was incarcerated pending application for warrants. On Wednesday, March 12th at 12:10 in afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the press box of the girl’s softball field, located at 1200 Rolla Road, in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a sound mixer and cords valued $550. Please contact the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242 if you have any information regarding these reports.

The Houston Baseball Tigers beat the Salem Tigers on Monday, 16-4, in the Houston Tournament. Salem will now face Cuba tonight 6:00 in the Houston Tournament.

Daisuke Matsuzaka tossed six solid innings and Daniel Murphy delivered a two-run double in the New York Mets' 5-3 Grapefruit League win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Shelby Miller was touched for three runs while fanning four and walking three over five innings for St. Louis, while Shane Robinson went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss. The Cardinals will play the Miami Marlins this afternoon at 12:05.

Nolan Arenado hit a two-run home run to lead the Colorado Rockies to an 8-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Johnny Giavotella and Alex Gordon scored the runs for the Royals. Jeremy Guthrie was touched for four runs on six hits over five innings. The Royals will play the Seattle Mariners tonight at 8:05.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Toronto tonight to face the Maple Leafs. The Blues are 48-16-7 on the year and are one of three teams to have already clinched a playoff spot with eleven regular season games left. St. Louis has 103 points and trails Boston by only one point for the most points in the NHL. You can hear tonight’s game on KSMO Radio starting at 5:30.

Funeral service for Dean Walter Hawley of Salem, age 87, will be held at 10:00 this morning at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Bethel Church Cemetery in Lonedell, MO on today at 2:30. Memorials may be made to The Samaritans Purse at P.O. Box 3000 Boone, North Carolina.

Funeral services for Michael Lee Widner of Bunker, age 57, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the Morrison Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Widner Family. 

Memorial service for Martha Rufus of Viburnum, age 74, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Memorials may be made to the family of Martha Rufus.

Funeral services for Mildred Brown of Rolla, age 87, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Memorials may be made to the Rolla Schools Back Pack Friday Program.

Funeral services for Curtis Anderson of Cook Station, age 54, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the Anderson Family.

Funeral services for Anita Kay Lynch of Rolla and formerly of Salem, age 40, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Green Tree Christian Church in Rolla. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Green Tree Christian Church. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Anita Lynch Memorial Fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla.

Funeral services for Shirley Mae Wells Dour of Salem, age 75, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County Hospice.

A “Celebration of Life” Memorial Service for Glendon Lee Gant of Bunker, age 82, will be held at First Baptist Church of Bunker on Saturday morning at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greeley Cemetery, the Bunker Volunteer Fire Department, or the Bunker Alumni Scholarship Fund, all at Bunker; to Southwest Baptist University in Salem, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
