The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a burglary, a DWI and a traffic stop. On Saturday, March 21^st at 1:19 in the morning, Deputies responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress on County Road 2500 in the Lenox area.  Phelps County Deputy responded and advised a Dent County Deputy that the subjects ran down County Road 2300 when he arrived. Deputies checked the area and did not locate any suspects. On Sunday, March 22^nd at 1:13 in the morning, a Dent County Deputy stopped a vehicle that had almost collided with his patrol vehicle on Rolla Road.  Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver was impaired due to drugs. He was arrested for DWI and transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital for a blood draw and was later issued a summons and released. At 4:27 that afternoon, a Dent County Deputy stopped a vehicle. The driver was driving while his drivers license privileges were suspended. During the course of the traffic stop it was determined that he had been involved in a theft in St. James the previous night. The suspect provided the location where some of the items had been taken. The location, which is in Edgar Springs, was given to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office for investigation. Anyone with any information regarding the attempted burglary, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Salem Area Community Betterment Association, The Salem News and KSMO Radio will host a Candidate’s Forum Thursday evening at the City Hall Auditorium beginning at 6:30 pm and the forum is open to the public. The forum will feature candidates running for the City of Salem East and West Ward Aldermanic positions. Candidates invited to participate are Jim Jackson, Edgar Gray Sr., David Tune, Brad Nash, Michael Thompson, and John Rostron. Questions for the candidates will come from the audience members that are present. KSMO Radio will be broadcasting the Candidate’s Forum live at 1340 AM and online at www.ksmoradio.com. The program will also be archived at the website. KSMO will repeat the forum broadcast at a date and time to be determined before election day.

Jesse Hudson of Salem is the first Missouri Lottery player to match all eight lines in the Lottery’s newest daily Numbers Game, Lucky Dough.  The feat earned the 30-year-old the game’s first jackpot prize of $76,779.  Hudson purchased his winning ticket at Salem Bowling Center LLC in Salem on Saturday, March 21. Hudson didn’t believe it at first, when sharing about the moment he realized he might be holding a winning ticket.  After checking the numbers about five times, he started shaking, and then he was able to collect his thoughts enough to tell a few patrons at the bowling center about his win.  After his hand stopped shaking, he could finally sign the back of the ticket. Though he hasn’t had time to think much about it yet, Hudson plans to “pay some bills and get my car paid off” with his winnings. Lucky Dough, which officially began on March 2, is played much like tic-tac-toe. 

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform shoulder repairs on Route 68 in Phelps County, from Route 8 to Route JJ today. Crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Shoulder repair work involves removing ruts, low areas and high spots on the shoulders. While performing this function, crews and equipment are located directly on or near the roadway. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when moving through the work zone. The Cardinal pocket schedules have arrived and are available around town and at the KSMO Radio Station lobby.

Rookie Patrik Berglund scored twice in the third period and Chris Mason stopped all 22 shots he faced to notch his 17th career shutout, as the Blues opened a critical three-game homestand with a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings. David Perron recorded two assists for the Blues. Looking to return to the postseason after a three-year absence, St. Louis finds itself one point out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Blues will face Vancouver Thursday night at 7:30. KSMO will join the game after the Candidate Forum.

The St. Louis cardinals had the day off yesterday and will continue spring training action today against the Houston Astros.

Mike Aviles hit a grand slam in the second inning, powering Kansas City to an 8-3 Cactus League win over the Oakland Athletics. Aviles had two hits and five RBI, while Coco Crisp and Willie Bloomquist each tallied a pair of hits in the victory. Zack Greinke logged eight strikeouts over five innings to get the win. He also gave up four hits and three runs, two of which were earned.

Funeral service for Len Bond of Leasburg, formerly of Steelville, age 81, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Meramec Hills Cemetery in Cuba.

Graveside services for Frank Carlis Heath of Bixby, age 52, will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Pump-Stricklin Cemetery in Iron County. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Memorials are suggested to the Heath family.

Funeral services for Herman Woodrow Gibbs of Salem, age 96, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Full Gospel Church.

Funeral services for Richard “Dick” Callie A. Russell of Salem, age 81, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00, with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home.

Visitation for Grace Lorene Hilderbrand of Salem, age 92 will be held Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. There will not be a funeral service. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Senior Center or the Greeley Cemetery.

Funeral services for Wava N. Haas of Salem, age 81, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery in Salem. 

Memorial services for Kay Reitz of St. James, age 85, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Memorial services for Delphia “Reita” Price of St. James, age 78, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Fort Leonard Wood Military Cemetery, at a later date.
