The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that crews are busy dealing with all the flood damage. He said that crew members would be working on Dent County Roads 2460, 2490, 5100 and 5450 with graders and dump trucks patching rough places and this would continue throughout the week. Simpson also said that it is going to take months to get the roads, bridges and ditches back into shape. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that crews would be working on Dent County Roads 2110, 2115, 2133, 3110, 3140, 3185, 3220, 3330, 4010, 4030, 4380 and 5260 with graders and dump trucks patching the rough places. Tune also said that the Round Pond Road is closed due to two ditches that are about five feet wide and about two to three feet deep and sections of Dent County Road 2540 are also closed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles received a letter about a possible cell phone tower being put up near Indian Trail State Park. The letter was asking if the Commission or anyone else had any complaints about this to please let the company know. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she would be holding the public testing for the April Election on Wednesday morning at 9:00. She also said that Senator Kit Bond would be holding a listening post at the courthouse on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
Troop I, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, recorded three traffic fatalities during the month of February 2008. There were a total of 223 accidents reported with 58 injuries with no fatalities in February of 2007 compared to 276 accidents reported with 61 injuries and three fatalities for February 2008. The total fatalities for 2008 are 6 as compared to 9 for the same time period last year. Crawford County reported 53 accidents occurred with six injuries and Dent County reported 12 accidents happened with one injury, Maries County reported nine accidents happened with four injuries, Phelps County reported 89 accidents occurred with 24 injuries and one fatality, and Pulaski County reported 48 accidents happened with 10 injuries and two fatalities during February 2008.
The Salem Police Department released their report involving assaults. On February 23rd at 8:33 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 900 block of West Center in reference to an assault. Investigation of the report revealed that a 35-year old Salem male had assaulted a 34-year old female and two female juveniles all of Salem. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On March 3rd at 10:47 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of South Pershing in reference to an assault. Investigation of the report revealed that a 50-year old Salem male had assaulted a 40-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect for 3rd degree domestic assault. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On March 9th at 7:46 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the Salem Bowling Center in reference to an assault. Investigation of the report revealed that a 32-year old Salem male had assaulted three people. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released.

The 5th Annual Business Expo, sponsored by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday, April 19th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Salem High School gymnasium and cafeteria. The deadline for the “Prime Booth Spots” will be Friday March 28th. Those booth spaces will be drawn at the April 9th Membership meeting at TCRC. You must be present at the April Membership Meeting to win a “Prime Spot”. Deadline to register for regular booth entry is Friday April 11th. All entries received after this date will be subject to a $15.00 late registration fee. Please be sure to pick up and fill out the entry form completely and either mail it to the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce located at 200 South Main or fax it to 573-729-6741.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will be on the road today as they will travel to Licking to face the Wildcats starting at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com.
The Salem tennis Tigers are scheduled to be at Houston today starting at 4:00 while the Salem Golf Tigers will host the Salem Open today at 4:00.
The Salem Track Tigers will be in Viburnum today starting at 4:00.
Brad Thompson tossed five innings of two-run ball and four different Cardinals knocked two runs in as St. Louis defeated the Minnesota Twins, 8-4 in Grapefruit League action. Ryan Ludwick crossed the plate three times, as Skip Schumaker, D'Angelo Jimenez, Jason LaRue and Cesar Izturis all batted in two RBI in the Cardinals' victory.
Mark Teahen homered and Joey Gathright and Alberto Callaspo each drove in a pair of runs, as Kansas City withstood a late Dodgers rally to take a 10-9 victory. Ross Gload also drove in a pair of runs for the Royals, who saw their starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa surrender four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over four frames.
The St. Louis Blues will host Detroit in the start of a home and home series with the Red Wings. The game tonight will be the first Blues’ home game in three weeks after a disastrous 1-9-2 road trip that has virtually eliminated the Blues from the playoffs this year.
