The Salem Baseball Tigers beat Willow Springs Tuesday afternoon in Houston by the score of 11-3. Devon Sutterfield hit an inside-the-park home run driving in two runs, and Brady Floyd also knocked in two for Salem as they evened their record at 1-1. The Salem varsity will face Mountain View this afternoon at 4:00 at Mountain Grove in the SCA Tournament.
The Salem Track Teams will host the Salem Open today starting at 4:00 at the Salem Track.
The Salem Golf Team opens their season this afternoon at Mountain View starting at 4:00.
The City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball/Softball/T-Ball programs are just around the corner. Sign-ups will be held today and Friday, March 25th in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center located on West Rolla Road from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. There will be a sign-up on Saturday, March 26th in the front lobby of the Salem High School Gym from 8:30 am to noon. Allen Craig highlighted a five-run sixth inning with a three-run homer, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the New York Mets, 5-3, in Grapefruit League play. Matt Holliday went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Cardinals, while starter Jake Westbrook gave up one unearned run on three hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Cord Phelps drove in the winning run with a triple in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Cleveland Indians rallied past the Kansas City Royals, 8-7, in Cactus League action. Kila Ka'aihue went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBI for the Royals, who also got a solo shot from Alcides Escobar. Mitch Maier went 3-for-3 with a run scored. Starter Nathan Adcock gave up three runs on four hits over two-plus innings.
Mike Anderson is on his way back to Arkansas, but this time as the head basketball coach of the Razorbacks. Anderson has decided to leave Missouri, where he has been the head coach for the past five seasons. The 51-year-old Anderson compiled a 111-56 record during his time with Missouri. He guided the Tigers to 13 wins over ranked opponents, four NCAA Tournament victories and a 75-13 record at home. Missouri went 23-11 this season, including an 8-8 mark in Big 12 play, but lost to Cincinnati in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
