Congratulations to the students who participated in the SCA Math and Science Relays on March 10, 2011 at Salem High School.  Mountain Grove placed 1^st overall with 157 points, Salem was 2^nd with 155 points and Ava placed 3rd with 137 points. The Salem team was first in the Challenge Problems. The senior team of Lane Howard, Kyle Robinson, Jesse Robinson and Tarynn Huitt placed 1^st. The junior team of Michael Walden, Kayla Hemken, Adam Wood and Lindsay Purcell also came in 1^st. The Sophomore team of Cody Lough, Emily Moser, Emily Sullivan and Alyvia Toman earned 3^rd place. Individual winners included Dalton Brown taking 3^rd in Physical Science, Cody Lough capturing 2^nd in Chemistry 1, Michael Walden snared 1^st in Advanced Chemistry, Tarynn Huitt took 3^rd in Advanced Chemistry, Jonathan Hambacker was 5^th in Anatomy & Physiology, Michael Walden came in 1^st in Physics, Kevin Presley took 2^nd in Physics, Rachel Lyons was 3^rd in Geometry, Lane Howard captured 2^nd in Advanced Math, Ashley Greenshields took 1^st in Probability & Statistics, and Lane Howard earned 5^th in Probability & Statistics.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Monday, March 14^th at 5:56 in the afternoon, four firefighters were responding to Highway 32 and while en route the call was cancelled. At 8:09 that same night, four firefighters responded to Highway 32 at Route MM to assist the Dent County Sheriff’s department with extrication manpower. Then at 8:47 that night, six firefighters responded to the 600 block of South Jackson for an overheated motor. The scene was brought under control at 9:39 pm. Also on Monday, March 14^th at 8:56 at night, a total of seven firefighters were responding to the 1700 block of West Scenic Rivers Blvd and the call was cancelled en route. On Tuesday, March 15^th at 4:13 in the afternoon, two firefighters were en route to Dent County Road 5085 and the call was cancelled while on their way. On March 16^th at 5:52 in the morning, a total of three firefighters responded to Dent County Road 6150 for an overheated motor. The investigation revealed that a refrigerator motor had overheated causing the smoke smell in the residence. On Thursday, March 17^th at 2:20 in the afternoon, three firefighters responded to Highway 32 about nine miles out for a grass fire. The fire was out upon arrival and the scene was brought under control at 2:40 pm. Then at 7:00 that evening, a total of six firefighters responded to South Main Street in Salem for training at the fire station. On Friday, March 18^th at 11:19 in the morning, fix firefighters responded to the fire station to provide medical assistance for EMS crews and to setup a landing zone. The scene was under control at 11:53. On Saturday, March 19^th at 6:30 in the morning, three firefighters were responding to Dent County Road 4110 and the call was cancelled while en  route. At 6:41 that evening, a total of seven firefighters responded to the 1100 block of West Coffman to assist EMS crews with a woman that had fallen down stairs. The scene was brought under control at 7:05 pm. On Sunday, March 20^th at 10:01 at night, a total of five firefighters responded to the 900 block of East Fourth Street for a fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a confined wild land fire. The scene was brought under control at 10:48 pm.

Ozark National Scenic Riverways has requested authorization for the placement of dredged and fill material in waters of the United States associated with the periodic removal of gravel at the Akers Ferry location on the Current River. Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR) requests a permit that would allow them to periodically remove accumulated gravel from the Current River around the ferry location using a bulldozer. The proposed project is located in the Current River northwest of Eminence. The basic purpose of the project is to provide Missouri Highway K a crossing of the Current River. The overall purpose of the project is to provide enough draft to allow the continued operation of Akers Ferry, which was first built in 1949 during extension of Highway K. Any interested party is invited to submit written comments or objections relative to the proposed work on or before March 27^th. Substantive comments, both favorable and unfavorable, will be accepted and made a part of the record and will receive full consideration in determining whether this work would be in the public interest. The decision whether to issue a permit will be based on an evaluation of the probable impact including cumulative impacts of the proposed activity on the public interest.
