The Texas County Sheriff's Office Endangered Person Advisory has been cancelled for 14-year old Nicole Allen and 17-year old Cody Graves who went missing after leaving the Licking High School Monday afternoon. Both children were found unharmed and OK!

Can’t afford to hire attorney to prepare a simple will or durable power of attorney for health care? Mizzou Law’s Pro Bono Program called “For the Public Good” is offering individual consultations for those who qualify. The service is provided FREE by the Legal Services of Southern Missouri and Mizzou Law Students. You MUST pre-register to see if you qualify for the free service by calling Pat at 573-341-3655 at Legal Services of Southern Missouri. Those who qualify will have 30-minute appointments. Students will then prepare a simple will and a durable power of attorney for health care under the supervision of Legal Services of Southern Missouri and return on Wednesday, March 26th to have the documents signed by their clients.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education conducted their meeting Tuesday evening. After approval of the agendas and communications, Superintendent Steve Carvajal stated that Summer School would be held for 14 days beginning May 27th and ending June 13th. It as noted that there were about 400 in attendance last year. In the building updates, the windows are just about all done, and gym walls have been framed. About 75% of the roof has been completed, and bricks are ready for the masonry work to start at the junior high. Carvajal noted that even with the unpredictable weather, all the building projects are still on schedule for completion the end of May. Melanie Wisdom reported that Tayton Barton, Dabrian Gorman, Collin Heavin, Kole Morgan, Denise Stoner, Caden Camden, Catherine Chester, Drew Christesen, Martin Jones, Alyssa Stotler, Mason Parker, Andy Bottorff, Kolson Seay, and Nina Howard will be competing in the MCTM math contest on Saturday, April 12th in Rolla. Also on Saturday, April 12th, eighty 5th and 6th graders will be competing in the Jefferson City Music Contest. Also, Serendipity will be held at the Upper Elementary on Thursday, May 8th. The Salem Senior High had three more students with a 30+ on the ACT making it 10 for the year, with tests still to be taken in April and June, thus shattering the old record of five. The SCA Quiz Bowl won 1st Place and Daniel Schultz took home the First Place Individual Medal last week in Mt. Grove. Congratulations went out to two graduates last year, Kutter Tiefenthaler and Cody Lough; and two seniors from this year, Amber McDaniel and Cordell Tatom for earning their State FFA Degrees. The Board then set their organizational meeting for April 17th at the regular Board meeting following the April 8th municipal election. The Board approved the MSBA Policy Service Agreement for MSBA policy updates, and also approved the Reading Recovery Purchased Services Agreement to pay for only the services Salem uses rather than be part of a consortium and pay for the whole program whether it is used or not. The Board then approved considering an after-school program coordinator provided the grant that was applied for is received in May for five years. Carvajal presented to the Board the two best health insurance proposals and after much discussion, the Board approved the health insurance proposal from the Missouri Education Health Group. The Board then accepted the resignations of Erin Blankenship as Varsity Basketball Cheerleading Coach, Diana Bermudez as the Varsity Volleyball Coach, Amy Cornelius as a 1st grade teacher at the William Lynch Elementary, Amy Leach as Jr. High Cheerleading Coach, Nancy Major as a classroom teacher, Aleshia White as Band Director, Rich Beckett as Jr. High Football Coach, Jennifer Shipley as a Jr. High Algebra teacher, Jeff Smail as Jr. High Special Ed., and Bobbi Jo Lewis as Jr. High Principal. The Board wanted to thank Clifton Parker and Jim McDaniels for their service on the R-80 School Board. The Board then voted to go into closed session.

The Salem Community Center@The Armory and Salem Fitness Center will be not open Monday, March 24th until 1:00. This is due to new electric service being installed at the building. They apologize for any inconvenience.

Salem High School Junior, Savannah Hanning, has been named to the Class 4 District 10 All-District Team for the second consecutive season. Hanning averaged 18.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, two assists per game, and two steals per game. She scored 20 points or more eleven times and was held under 10 just twice. Congratulations Savannah!

Marcell Ozuna smacked a home run to give the Miami Marlins a 4-3 Grapefruit League win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Jon Jay, Daniel Descalso and Peter Bourjos picked up an RBI apiece for the Cardinals. The Cardinals will play the Nationals today at 12:05.

Mike Trout smacked a two-run home run to power the LA Angels to a 3-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. Jason Donald had a solo home run and Billy Butler picked up an RBI for the Royals. The Royals play the Angels and Reds today in split squad games.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Philadelphia to face the Flyers on Saturday and in Pittsburgh to play the Penguins on Sunday. The Blues are 47-15-7 on the year and still have an NHL leading 101 points. You can hear both games on KSMO Radio starting at 11:30 in the morning.

The Missouri Tiger basketball squad will host Southern Miss on Sunday in the 2nd Round of the NIT. Missouri is 23-11 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO starting at 3:30.

Funeral services for Dale T. Howard of Salem, age 87, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Carty Cemetery or Hobson Community Church.

Funeral services for Verble Johnson of Salem, age 81 will be held at 1:00 today at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem Masonic Lodge #225 AFAM and Second Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Jessie Lee Crocker of Viburnum, age 80, will be held at 2:00 Saturday at the Cherryville First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Sam Crocker Cemetery in Goodland. Memorials may be made to the Sam Crocker Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Edgar Ernest Gray of Salem, age 72, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery in Salem. Memorials are suggested to the Green Forest Cemetery.

Memorial services for Roger Clay Strickland of Rolla, age 88, will be held Sunday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the St. James Veterans Home.

Memorial service for Rita Fave Melton of Salem, age 58, will be held Monday at 12:00 (noon) at the Grace Community Church in Salem.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 Monday morning until service time. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral service for Dean Walter Hawley of Salem, age 87, will be held at 10:00 Tuesday morning at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday. A “Celebration of Life” Memorial Service for Glendon Lee Gant of Bunker, age 82, will be held at First Baptist Church of Bunker on Saturday morning at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greeley Cemetery, the Bunker Volunteer Fire Department, or the Bunker Alumni Scholarship Fund, all at Bunker; to Southwest Baptist University in Salem, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
