The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning in the Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to report that CART receipts for March were $52,962.57, which is up year-to-date $9,444.20. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that the roads were too wet to grade so crews were only spreading materials on Dent County Roads 5410, 5440, 5150, 5160, 2440 and 2460. He went on to say that grading would resume Friday if conditions allowed.  Purcell said that he attended a Tourism Tax Committee meeting on Monday and that they approved three proposals and a reimbursement for a previous proposal. He encouraged individuals and groups to apply when they are planning an activity that will promote tourism in Dent County. Applications may be obtained from Beth Frizzell, Kim Gollhofer and Purcell. Purcell noted that Monday evening he attended the Green Forest R-2 School Board Meeting to share information about the proposed 1/4-cent sales tax that will appear on the April ballot and that Wednesday he attended the Meramec Regional Development Corporation meeting where three loans were approved. He said that anyone wanting information about applying for the business loans with the assistance of the MRDC should contact Maria Bancroft at (573) 265-2993. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that materials would be hauled to Dent County Road 2060, 2050, 2360, 5260 and 4403. He went on to say that weather permitting his crew would be patching chip and seal on county roads 5240 and 4300. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles wanted to make sure citizens understand that a Factoid is an untruth that is told often enough and with enough conviction, that the untruth is perceived to be a fact. Skiles said that Salem Mayor J.J. Tune was quoted in the Salem News that Dent County gets 1½ cent sales tax, when in actuality, Dent County only gets one half cent sales tax for Law Enforcement and one half cent sales tax for General Revenue. Skiles said that numerous times Mayor Tune has made the comment of one and one half cent sales tax, so the public perception is that the Mayor is correct. Skiles added that on Friday all three Commissioners would be attending the South Central District Commissioners spring meeting in Houston. He added that several legislators were expected to attend the afternoon session. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that bills were being approved and that the South Central District County Clerks would also be meeting Friday in Houston at 9:30 and they would join the commissioners for lunch and the afternoon session. Skiles noted that Curley currently serves as President of the South Central County Clerks Association. He went on to say that this past Thursday evening he would meeting with the R-3 school board, Commissioner Purcell would be meeting with the R-1 school board and Commissioner Larson would be meeting with the R-80 school board to discuss the proposed 1/4-cent sales tax for the Road and Bridge Department that will be on the April ballot. Dent County Deputy Cochran came in to discuss seeking bids on a Sheriff vehicle as well as seeking purchase/lease financing bids. After discussion, the Commission agreed 3-0 to seek bids. Bids are being taken on a new 2014/2015 Ford Police Interceptor utility SUV and the sealed bids will be opened at 10:00 am on March 26th. Purchase/lease financing bids will also be due at 10:00 on March 26th. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
