The Salem Baseball Tigers will be at Houston today in the first round of the Houston Tournament against Cuba starting at 6:00. Tournament games will NOT be heard on KSMO.
The Salem Tigers track teams will be at Rolla this afternoon at 3:30 for their first meet of the year.
Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves as the St. Louis Blues became the first team in the NHL to clinch a playoff berth as they downed the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-1, at Tampa Bay Times Forum. Patrik Berglund, David Perron and Jaden Schwartz, who was playing in his first career game, recorded goals for St. Louis. T.J. Oshie added two assists as the Blues improved to 2-1-1 in a seven-game road trip. St. Louis will be in Anaheim Wednesday night to play the Ducks.
What a debut for Norfolk State in the NCAA Tournament. Kyle O'Quinn had 26 points and 14 rebounds Friday and the Spartans stunned the second-seeded Missouri Tigers, 86-84, for an historic upset. Michael Dixon had 22 points to pace Missouri, while Phil Pressey and Marcus Denmon both chipped in 20. Missouri finished the season with a 30-5 record.
David Freese hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-2 win over the Miami Marlins in spring training action. Matt Holliday had two hits and a run batted in for the Cardinals, who got four innings of one-hit ball from Adam Wainwright. The Cards will play Atlanta today.
Eric Hosmer belted a two-run homer in the first inning Sunday to spark the Kansas City Royals to a 6-4 win over the Cleveland Indians in spring training. Alcides Escobar hit an RBI triple in the second inning and a run-scoring single in the fourth. Luke Hochevar pitched three-plus innings for the Royals. The Royals have the day off.
The City of Salem summer baseball, t-ball, and softball signups will be held on Thursday, March 22nd and Friday, March 23rd and again on Thursday, March 29th and Friday, March 30th at the Salem TCRC from 4:00 to 6:00. There will also be a signup on Saturday, March 24th at the Salem High School Gym while the youth basketball games are going on.
