The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a domestic dispute and an arrest. On Tuesday, March 17^th at 12:06 in the early morning, a call came in from the Salem Police Department with information on Salem male that had stolen checks in town and was possibly armed with a .380 pistol. He was reported traveling with his pregnant girlfriend and expected back in the Salem area that evening and was known to use Highway 68. The Salem Police Department located the subject in town and was assisted by the Dent County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The man first denied his true identity until he was identified by his tattoos. His girlfriend was found hiding behind a house. Both have warrants out of Colorado, and Colorado will extradite. At 12:19 that same morning, a call came in from a woman at a residence in Lecoma. She requested a deputy, since the owner of the property had blocked the road with a tractor and was refusing to allow her to drive up to her trailer to get some of her property. The owner agreed to move the tractor so she could drive up the hill and get her clothes. The owner was worried that damagewould occur to his property and things would be missing that were his. The woman was advised to call in the afternoon and try to work out a time to pick up the rest of her stuff, as the relationship had ended.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight at 6:00 at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the consent agenda and communications, Superintendent Steve Bryant will give a legislative update, address the summer school for 2009, give the Board some budget information and address the Judson Young Foundation donation. In new business, there will be a CIA-upper elementary performance and demonstration followed by the approval of the career ladder plan and a request for a career ladder waiver. The Board will then approve the technology plan, consider bus leases and or purchase bids, consider BOE policies, consider the MSBA policy service agreement, set an organizational meeting and address resignations. The Board will then go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel and student discipline. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.  

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the minutes from the February 19^th meeting, Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board on the hospital activity calendar, auxiliary report and legislative issues. Director or Nursing Carol Lacy will then give the summary of operations and statistics reports for the month of February and long with the nursing services and ancillary service reports and those will be followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business, there will be a physician office building report, a strategic planning update, a medical staff bylaw review and report from the finance committee meeting. In new business the Board will address hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

Citizens in Salem will be able to save money, save energy and stimulate the economy by participating in Missouri’s first Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday. The holiday, which runs from April 19^th through 25^th, means a savings of at least 4.225 percent to people who purchase a new Energy Star qualified appliances in Missouri during the holiday period. The reduced price represents the elimination of the state’s sales tax from the purchase. Energy Star-certified appliances that qualify for the sales tax exemption are: clothes washers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, water heaters, furnaces and air conditioners. The sales tax exemption only applies to the first $1,500 on each appliance. If an appliance costs more than $1,500, the regular sales tax rate is in effect for any of the purchase price about $1,500.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will reduce Route V in Phelps County, to one-lane today. MoDOT crews will replace a drainage pipe near County Road 2390.  Work will begin at 7:00 a.m. and be completed by 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. Salem Tiger Boys Basketball Coach Phillip Karr has elected to return to coaching the Lady Tiger Basketball team for the 2009-2010 season. A new coach will be sought to replace Karr as the Boys Basketball Coach. Lady Tiger Coach Kim Brand had been hired for one year after the late resignation of Boys Coach Travis Wrightsman in the summer of 2008.

Former National League Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter hurled six shutout innings in helping lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in spring training action. Carpenter, who has made just five appearances over the past two seasons due to arm trouble, allowed three hits and a walk while striking out two batters in collecting his second win of the spring. Albert Pujols and Ryan Ludwick drove in a run each for St. Louis, while Skip Schumaker scored a pair of runs. The second game was cancelled due to rain.

Mike Wilson blasted two homers, as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Kansas City Royals, 9-3, in Cactus League action. Mark Teahen and Mike Jacobs each homered for the Royals, while Zack Greinke allowed six runs on 11 hits in five innings to receive the loss.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Vancouver tonight to face the Canucks on this Canadian road trip. The Blues loss Tuesday in Edmonton dropped them two points out of a playoff spot. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO starting at 9:00.

The Kansas City Royals announced on Wednesday that they have released left-handed pitcher Jimmy Gobble. Gobble made his big league debut with the Royals in 2003 and went 22-23 with a 5.23 earned run average in 235 games with the club, 43 of those starts. The 27-year-old went 0-2 with an 8.81 ERA in 39 relief outings last year. Kansas City also announced the signing of 26-year-old righty Anthony Lerew to a minor league contract. Lerew made 11 appearances (three starts) with the Braves from 2005-07, going 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA.

FFuneral services for Verla Ellen Floyd of Salem, age 71, will be held today at 6:30 at the Church of Christ in Salem with visitation to follow. Interment will be Saturday in the Westlawn Cemetery in Geering, Nebraska. Memorials may be made to the Pregnancy Center in Salem. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Marshfield.

Funeral services for Larry David Martin Sr. of Salem, age 68, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary. Visitation will be Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Corinth Baptist Church Youth Group or the Phelps County Regional Home Care Foundation.

Funeral services for Opal McCracken of Salem will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cuba.
