There are still several 4-H’ers that did not attend either of the two Dent County Quality Assurance meetings. Anyone planning to show an animal (rabbits, poultry, bucket calf, heifer, goat, steer, hog, lamb) at the fair, attending a MO Show-Me Quality Assurance program is REQUIRED. The last meeting will be held in at the Belle Methodist Church on Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 pm. If you do attend the meeting, you will need to let Linda Shelton know, as this is required in order to show your stock. Call her at 729-3196.

The Dent County 4-H/FFA Steer Weigh-in is this Saturday, March 20th from 9:00 am to noon at the Commons. The first steer weighed is free (ear tag and wormer will be applied) and any additional steers weighed in will cost $5.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts, property damage, and assaults. On Tuesday, March 9th at 12:30 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen handgun. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a handgun valued at $200.00 from a residence in the 700 block of William Street. Later that evening at 8:14, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that three males had assaulted a 17-year old female of Salem in the 200 block of North Iron Street. On Wednesday, March 10th at 8:06 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Jr. High School in reference to property damage and a fight. The investigation of the report led to the detention of a 14-year old male juvenile of Salem for disorderly conduct, and the detention of a 12- year old male juvenile for disorderly conduct and damage to school property. The juveniles were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile office. On Thursday morning, March 11th at 11:50m an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a blank check from a checkbook at an unknown location. Later that afternoon at 3:50, an officer was contacted at the station in reference an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 16-year old female juvenile of Salem had assaulted a 15-year old female juvenile of Salem in the 900 block of East Hawkins Street. The 16-year old juvenile was detained for assault and released to her parents. The report will be forwarded to the juvenile office. Please contact the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242 if you have any information regarding the thefts or assaults, which are still under investigation.

Sheriff Rick Stallings reports that the Dent County Sheriff's Department is investigating a break-in and made two arrests for trespassing. On March 14th, Thomas and Jacob Barnard were arrested for trespassing and taken to the sheriff's office, then later issued a summons to appear in court and were released. The arrest was for allegedly trespassing on the David James Vich property on Dent County Road 3220 as the Barnards were fishing in a lake without permission. Stallings said that Vich reported the incident to law enforcement officers at 12:50 in the afternoon after watching the two on his property on a computer while he was in California. At 6:05 in the evening on March 14th, a break-in was reported at the Michael Clark property on the Route EE spur. A window was damaged and the door to the house was open. According to Stallings, a screen to the window off the porch on the south side had been ripped off and the window open. Stallings said it was apparent that someone had gone through the house looking at or for items as the interior doors were open, doors to cabinets were open and objects from the drawers has been thrown on the floor, but nothing was reported missing.

Peter Mueller continued his hot play for his new team, tallying two goals and an assist to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Blues. Alexander Steen, Patrik Berglund and David Perron scored for the Blues, who have lost two straight. Chris Mason stopped only 21-of-26 shots in defeat. The Blues will be in New York Thursday to face the Rangers at 6:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO.

Ivan Rodriguez drove in three runs with a pair of singles to help Washington take a 4-2 decision from St. Louis in Grapefruit League action. Ryan Ludwick had two hits and an RBI for the Red Birds, whose starter Kyle Lohse was charged with four runs on seven hits and two walks over four frames. David Freese had an RBI double in the loss. The Cards have the day off.

Chris Narveson was one of six pitchers that combined on an eight-hit shutout, as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Kansas City Royals, 2-0, in Cactus League action. Gil Meche started for Kansas City and yielded two runs on three hits and two walks in four frames. Alberto Callaspo and Mitch Maier each had two hits in the loss. The Royals play San Diego today.

There will be a meeting at the Salem High School Library for parents of 6th and 7th grade boys who are interested in playing Jr. High football next fall at the Salem R-80 in a Cooperative Sponsorship program. The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 18th at 6:30 pm. This meeting if for parents of students in the R-1, R-2, R-3 and R-4 school districts. R-80 parents are welcome but not required. The St. Louis Rams announced the signing of veteran center Hank Fraley on Tuesday. Fraley is entering his 11th season in the NFL after spending the previous four campaigns with Cleveland.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free agent guard Ryan Lilja on Tuesday.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will face Clemson Friday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. You can hear the game at 1:15 on KSMO Radio.

The long awaited 2010 St. Louis Cardinals pocket schedules have arrived. They are available at local sponsors around town or in the front lobby of the KSMO Radio Station.

Funeral services for Leo Cardetti of St. James, age 81, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati, MO.  Interment will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County Historical Society or St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Peggy Jean Bond of St. Louis, age 83, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Kissock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children Research or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Betty Jane Ferrell of Mountain Home, Arkansas, formerly of Viburnum, age 86, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Pleasant Point Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Pleasant Point Cemetery.

A funeral mass for Sharon Kay Miles of Rolla, age 64, will be held Thursday morning at St. Patrick Church in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 today at the James and Gahr Chapel in Rolla. A Rosary service will be held tonight at 6:00. Memorials may be made to the family of Sharon Kay Miles.
