There are still several 4-H’ers that did not attend either of the two Dent County Quality Assurance meetings. Anyone planning to show an animal (rabbits, poultry, bucket calf, heifer, goat, steer, hog, lamb) at the fair, attending a MO Show-Me Quality Assurance program is REQUIRED. The last meeting will be held in at the Belle Methodist Church on Thursday, March 25^th at 7:00 pm. If you do attend the meeting, you will need to let Linda Shelton know, as this is required in order to show your stock. Call her at 729-3196.

The Dent County 4-H/FFA Steer Weigh-in is this Saturday, March 20^th from 9:00 am to noon at the Commons. The first steer weighed is free (ear tag and wormer will be applied) and any additional steers weighed in will cost $5.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts, property damage, and assaults. On Tuesday, March 9^th at 12:30 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen handgun. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a handgun valued at $200.00 from a residence in the 700 block of William Street. Later that evening at 8:14, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that three males had assaulted a 17-year old female of Salem in the 200 block of North Iron Street. On Wednesday, March 10^th at 8:06 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Jr. High School in reference to property damage and a fight. The investigation of the report led to the detention of a 14-year old male juvenile of Salem for disorderly conduct, and the detention of a 12- year old male juvenile for disorderly conduct and damage to school property. The juveniles were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile office. On Thursday morning, March 11^th at 11:50m an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a blank check from a checkbook at an unknown location. Later that afternoon at 3:50, an officer was contacted at the station in reference an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 16-year old female juvenile of Salem had assaulted a 15-year old female juvenile of Salem in the 900 block of East Hawkins Street. The 16-year old juvenile was detained for assault and released to her parents. The report will be forwarded to the juvenile office. Sheriff Rick Stallings reports that the Dent County Sheriff's Department is investigating a break-in and made two arrests for trespassing. On March 14^th, Thomas and Jacob Barnard were arrested for trespassing and taken to the sheriff's office, then later issued a summons to appear in court and were released. The arrest was for allegedly trespassing on the David James Vich property on Dent County Road 3220 as the Barnards were fishing in a lake without permission. Stallings said that Vich reported the incident to law enforcement officers at 12:50 in the afternoon after watching the two on his property on a computer while he was in California. At 6:05 in the evening on March 14^th, a break-in was reported at the Michael Clark property on the Route EE spur. A window was damaged and the door to the house was open. According to Stallings, a screen to the window off the porch on the south side had been ripped off and the window open. Stallings said it was apparent that someone had gone through the house looking at or for items as the interior doors were open, doors to cabinets were open and objects from the drawers has been thrown on the floor, but nothing was reported missing.
