The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their regular meeting. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2410, 2430 and 2470; while rock will be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 5600. Materials will also be added to Dent County Road 4210. Purcell stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 6070 and 6570, and that a tree that blew down across Dent County Road 6575 was pushed off the roadway. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that workers will be patching chip and seal roads 2240, 3260 and 6150; and grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2020, 5330 and 5335. Larson went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 3040 and grader #27 will be serviced. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles gave a report on the South Central County Commissioners Association meeting held at Houston that he and Commissioner Larson attended. He said that Jason Grellner talked about the availability of pseudophederine in South Central Missouri as well as meth labs. Grellner says that most of the preudophederine used to manufacture meth comes from Dent, Phelps and Pulaski counties. Under current law, the local governments have to pass laws to ban the issuance of pseudophederine over the counter instead of the state legislature. The association unanimously voted to ask the legislature to address this issue of “over the counter” sales of pseudophederine. Skiles stated that a new type of pseudophederine called “Receiva” has been developed that does not have the same chemical makeup as pseudophederine, but works the same. He said that the chemical is not yet available to the public. Skiles also said that Sue Wallis from Unified Equine was at the meeting to discuss their desire to start an equine processing plant in southwest Missouri. She stated that within a 300-400 miles range, you would find 30% of all horses in United States. No location of the plant has yet been established. Skiles, speaking for Dent County Recorder Cindy Ard, asked the commission to give Ard permission to get bids for new software for her office and bring those bids to the commission for their review on Monday, March 26th at 10:00. Money for the software has already been budgeted. Skiles also reported that all three commissioners attended the Industry Tour at the Master’s Industrial Park along with Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that on Wednesday, March 21st at 9:00, testing of the voting equipment will be held at her office. She stated that absentee voting continues until April 2nd for the upcoming April Municipal election. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held on Monday, March 19th at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.
