More of the Fall and Winter Salem Tiger sports awards have been announced. For volleyball, Morgan Hailey was named 2nd Team All-SCA while Kelsey Michno was named All-SCA Honorable Mention. Breanna Piatt was named 2nd Team All District. Michno and Hannah Jadwin were also named Academic All-State. The Lady Tiger Softball team was well represented as named 1st Team All-SCA were Cortney Putman and Savannah Hanning. Putman was also named SCA Player of the Year. Kirsten Strebe and Camryn Pryor were named 2nd Team All SCA. Named to the All-SCA Honorable Mention Team were Taylor Frizzell, Gabriel Sanderson, and Kari Hatridge. Putman, Frizzell, and Sanderson were also named Academic All-State. For Lady Tiger basketball, Savannah Hanning was named First Team All SCA and Payton Curley was named All-SCA Honorable Mention. For the boy’s basketball team, Cody Whitaker was named 1st Team All-SCA and Logan Pogue was named All-SCA Honorable Mention.
Jabari Brown scored 26 points and Earnest Ross added 24 points as the Missouri Tigers outlasted the Texas A&M Aggies, 91-83, in double overtime in the SEC Tournament at the Georgia Dome. Missouri will play Florida, the top ranked team in the nation, today in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 11:30 this morning.
Jaden Schwartz scored twice in a four-goal third period, which lifted St. Louis over Edmonton, 6-2, at Scottrade Center. Alex Pietrangelo and T.J. Oshie also lit the lamp in the final frame for the Blues. St. Louis will be in Nashville Saturday night to face the Predators and you can hear that game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 6:30.
Xavier Scruggs highlighted a seven-run sixth inning with a three-run double as the St. Louis Cardinals shut out the Atlanta Braves, 11-0, in Grapefruit League action. Lance Lynn recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in four innings. The Cardinals will play the Astros today at 12:05. The Cards will also play the Braves on Saturday and Mets on Sunday. Matt Carson had three RBI as the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals, 12-6, in Cactus League play. Eric Hosmer went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Royals, who will play the Oakland Athletics today at 3:05.
