The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4210, 5390, 5400, 6070 and 6080 and the rest of the District 1 crew would be doing maintenance on the durapatcher. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2070, 2075, 3020, 3050, 3060, 3070 and 3150. Tune also said that Susan Cunningham with Spacial Data Research met with both district crews on Wednesday to discuss the discrepancies in the county map for rural addressing. Cunningham said she would have the problems fixed and new maps will be printed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles will be on KSMO Radio this morning for his first program on keeping the public informed. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Local Emergency Planning Committee for Shannon County will be conducting a practice drill on Saturday, March 15th at 11:00 am on Highway 19 North at the Round Springs Bridge. Highway 19 will at no time be impassable but local residents are asked to avoid the area if possible to relieve congestion caused by the emergency vehicles on the scene. The drill will include a simulation of a bus overturning with about 20 soles on board resulting in a diesel spill into the waterway below. This drill is a joint effort between the National Park Service, the St. John’s ambulance service, Shannon County Sheriff’s Department, Eminence Fire Department, Timber Fire Department, Jadwin Fire Department, Winona Fire Department, MO State Highway Department, Air-Evac Lifeteam, MoDOT and the Missouri Department of Conservation. A local youth group will be playing the part of the injured complete with theatrical blood and bruises. The students have the opportunity to evaluate the care they receive from emergency workers based on the injuries and symptoms they present. This evaluation will help emergency workers better prepare and treat victims in a real emergency situation. These drills are planned to simulate as closely as possible accidents that could happen in Shannon County. Local citizens donate their time to receive training and conduct drills to prepare for emergency situations that may threaten the health and well being of their fellow Shannon County residents. This drill is sponsored by the State Emergency Management Agency.

There will be a “Stream Team” stream clean up at the Bonebrake Center of Nature and History in Salem tomorrow at 1:00 PM.  The Westside 4-H Club has adopted this activity as a community service project, but we invite all of you to come out and participate. It's a fun way to get outside and enjoy a local creek, clean up some unsightly trash to help beautify the Bonebrake property, get some service time for your project report, and, yes, you'll get wet (dress appropriately!) Also, note that any kids grade levels K-5 who participate in this will receive credit for Bonebrake's Ozark Kids' Connection youth program (credit toward the program award/patch!), so there's even more incentive to come. For any questions call Jamin Bray at 729-7856.
