The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the month of February. For the month there were 59 9-1-1- calls, in which all were responded to with twelve of the calls being prank calls. The Department served 89 papers consisting of 75 civil papers, 14 criminal papers and four notices to vacate, plus they served 14 felony warrants and 15 misdemeanor warrants. During the month, there was one drug arrest and 12 domestic disturbance calls were addressed. The Sheriff’s Department issued 13 tickets, and assisted on 10 traffic accidents. For the month of February, the Sheriff’s Department investigated one burglary, four assaults, nine thefts, five property-damage reports and investigated one death. The Department spent 143 hours working in court and 18 hours testifying. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department handled a total of 163 calls during the month and made two community policing appearances. In the Dent County Jail Report for February, there were 33 prisoners incarcerated for the month with an average daily total of 13. There were two transfers to the Department of Corrections, and there were two transfers to a mental facility. During the month of February, the sheriff’s department drove a total of 15,381 miles on criminal investigations, patrolling and prisoner transportation.

Kindergarten registration continues at the William Lynch Elementary School today and tomorrow from 8:30 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon. The child must turn five on or before July 31st and must be present at the registration. Parents need to bring a birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization record. The Salem Police Department released their reports for March 6th involving a traffic stop, drugs and an active warrant. On March 6th at 1:11 in the afternoon, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle ran a stop sign, was driving carelessly and imprudently in the wrong lane and was speeding. The vehicle sped away in an attempt to elude the officer. The officer followed the vehicle north of Salem on Highway 19. The vehicle began turning off and traveling down county roads and then back across Highway 72 and back to county roads. The officer was able to apprehend the suspect after he drove his vehicle a white 1992 Ford Tempo into the ditch on County Road 233. A 32-year old Rolla male was incarcerated on the traffic violations and possession of drugs. Phelps County requested a hold for similar charges in the Rolla area earlier that morning at 12:20 am. Later that afternoon at 4:38, an officer made contact with an individual on an unrelated incident and it was revealed during the investigation a 32-year old male from Rolla had an active warrant for his arrest from Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. He was incarcerated pending extradition from Franklin County.

The Salem R-80 schools, Oak Hill R-1 School, Green Forest R-2 school and Dent-Phelps R-3 School will be closed Friday and Monday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, March 20th. The Northwood R-4 school will be off school on Friday, March 16th, but they will be going to school on Monday, March 19th. This is a makeup day that was missed due to the flu.

Michael Cuddyer went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored as Minnesota topped St. Louis, 5-2, in Grapefruit League play. Scott Spiezio was 2-for-3, and Adam Kennedy added a triple for the Cardinals. Ricardo Rincon was tagged with the loss after surrendering a pair of hits and two earned runs in one full inning of work.

St. Louis Cardinals right-handed relief pitcher Josh Kinney underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, and will miss the entire 2007 season as he rehabs his right arm. Kinney felt discomfort in his elbow after he pitched last Monday against the Astros. An MRI exam revealed that the hurler had an almost complete tear in his ulnar collateral ligament. The surgery was performed in St. Louis by Dr. George Paletta, the Cardinals team physician. Kinney is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2008 season. The 27-year-old Kinney was a surprise contributor for the World Series champion Cardinals last season, posting a 3.24 earned run average in 21 appearances, and did not allow a run in seven playoff appearances spanning 6 1/3 innings.

Garret Anderson went 3-for-3, clubbing a two-run home run, and the LA Angels of Anaheim slugged past the Kansas City Royals, 13-7. Mark Teahen went 2-for-2, scoring twice for the Royals. Ryan Shealy went 3- for-3, knocking in a run for Kansas City. Todd Wellemeyer started, and was tagged with the loss, as he was shelled for five runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The St. Louis Blues will be off until tomorrow night when they will be in Vancouver to face the Canucks. Game time is set for 9:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Graveside services for James Elmo Delassus of Steelville, age 87, will be held today at 1:30 at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Graveside services for Martha F. Hahne of Evansville, Wisconsin, age 84 will be held today at 2:00 at the Carty Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Martha Ellen Claus of St. James, age 60, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Wishon Cemetery in Phelps County.

Funeral services for John Thomas Adams of Rolla, age 19, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Vienna United Methodist Church in Vienna. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested Vienna United Methodist Church or to CORE for the Rolla High School Athletic Department.

Memorial services for Janice M. Gahr of Steelville, age 64, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 Thursday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Orval L. Hannell of Viburnum, age 68, are incomplete at this time but are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
