The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done in the East Spring Creek District on Dent County Road 408 and grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 552 and 553. Simpson said grading would also be done on Dent County Roads 611, 646 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 240. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 316 and 317 and grading would also be done and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 524. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he talked to Phelps Counties Presiding Commissioner about Rural Addressing. Skiles said he got a copy of the grid map showing how Phelps County is laid out and would like the Commission to look over it. Skiles also said that he and Dent County Clerk Angie Curley would be attending a Wage and Hour meeting Wednesday in Rolla to get updated on current laws regarding wages and labor. At the previous meeting the Commission reviewed the bids for chip and seal. Commissioner Simpson made the motion to go with A-PAC MISSOURI Inc. and Commissioner Tune seconded the motion. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred Sunday morning at 11:40 in Iron County on Highway 49 about a half mile north of Bixby. According to the highway patrol report, a 1986 Chevrolet truck driven by 42-year old Sherry Dotson of Bixby was traveling southbound on Highway 49, slid off the right side of the roadway, overturned and struck a tree. Dotson suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Iron County Hospital and then Air-Evac’d to St. John’s Hospital in St. Louis. The Chevrolet truck sustained extensive damage.

The Salem Ranger District of the Mark Twain National Forest is seeking your comments on a proposal to re-issue a ten-year Term Grazing Permit and Allotment Management Plan for the Asher Creek Grazing Allotment. Asher Creek is located two miles southeast of Boss. The Allotment is approximately 200 acres of National Forest System lands. The Salem Ranger District is proposing to authorize livestock grazing in a manner that moves toward the Forest Plan Goal and Objectives. The plan includes controlling the time, duration and intensity of livestock grazing to achieve a desired structure and species composition objectives. The plan also will only allow grading in those areas with adequate fencing for control and management of livestock, and grazing will not be allowed with in 100-feet of springs, significant seeps, fens, other wetland features or the break of a sinkhole basin. District Ranger Thomas Haines invites you to comment on this proposal before the analysis has been completed and a final decision has been made. Alex Tanguay and Jarome Iginla scored in a shootout, as Calgary continued its push for a higher seed in the playoffs with a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Lee Stempniak scored twice for the Blues, who have dropped two in a row and four of five. Christian Backman and Petr Cajanek also found the back of the net for St. Louis, while Brad Boyes had three assists. Jason Bacashihua 30 saves in a losing effort.

Rick Ankiel homered and doubled in his two at-bats, helping the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Ankiel, trying to return to the majors as an outfielder after his well-documented pitching troubles, connected for his first homer of the spring in the sixth inning. He then doubled in the eighth and scored the go-ahead run. Braden Looper, trying his hand as a starter, threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings for St. Louis. He yielded four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three. The Cards are 8-4 this spring.

Jeff Mathis hit a pair of home runs, ending 3-for-3, and drove in three runs to help the Angels down the Royals, 11-4, in Cactus League action. Gil Meche began the game on the mound for the Royals and yielded two runs on four hits, striking out four in four frames. Esteban German and Joey Gaithright had two hits apiece for Kansas City. The Royals with the loss fall to 6-7 on the spring.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed unrestricted free agent linebacker Donnie Edwards to a three-year deal on Monday. Per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed. The 11-year veteran originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick of Kansas City in the 1996 NFL Draft. Edwards played in 94 regular season games with 80 starts in six seasons with the Chiefs before leaving as an unrestricted free agent. He led the Chiefs in tackles during his last four seasons with the team.

Funeral services for Roy L. Gaddy of Salem, age 78, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery Full military honors will be held at the cemetery.

Funeral services for Cleveland Earn Shoemake of Steelville, age 82, will be held today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Graveside services for James Elmo Delassus of Steelville, age 87, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Visitation will be today from 3:00 to 8:00 and with a prayer service at 6:30 at the Britton Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Martha Ellen Claus of St. James, age 60, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Wishon Cemetery in Phelps County.

Funeral services for John Thomas Adams of Rolla, age 19, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Vienna United Methodist Church in Vienna. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested Vienna United Methodist Church or to CORE for the Rolla High School Athletic Department.

Memorial services for Janice M. Gahr of Steelville, age 64, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 Thursday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
