The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports. On Tuesday, March 10^th at 2:07 in the afternoon, a Dent County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a call in reference to missing horses on Dent County Road 5070. The owner reported that she noticed three of her horses were missing from her front pasture and that she had walked the entire fence line and did not notice any breaks in the fence. The gate had been secured the night before but was open the next day.  At 5:30 Tuesday afternoon, a man walked into the Dent County Sheriff’s office and reported his vehicle was stolen. The man reported that a 1948 Jeep Willy, yellow in color, with a black canvas top over roll cage was missing from his property located on Highway 19 South across from The Garden of Eden. He reported that the last time he saw the vehicle was about a month ago. He also reported that the vehicle was not drivable, an would have to be hauled or towed away. The Jeep is valued at $3,000. Anyone with any information regarding the missing animals or the stolen Jeep, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The regular monthly meeting of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission will be held tonight at the MRPC office located at #4 Industrial Driven by St. James and will begin at 7:30 pm. After approval of the agenda and several contracts, Jack Kearbey and Donna Martin with the USDA Rural Development will present to discuss the USDA’s stimulus funds especially in community facilities, water, and waste water treatment programs and how the USDA will get the money to communities. Connie Willman will report on grants submitted and funded since the last meeting along with application deadlines and funding availability. Tammy Snodgrass will report on solid waste activities and also on the Homeland Security Oversight Committee activities. Kraig Bone will report on MREPC activities, Tom Klebba will report on business loan activities, and T.R. Dudley will report on workforce development activities. Chairman Laura Antolak and Director Richard Cavender will then report on issues of interest. The regular monthly meeting of the MRPC is open to the public.

University of Missouri Extension and the Salem TCRC will be hosting a series of evening programs, which will be held on Thursdays, starting tonight and then on March 19th, and 26th at the Salem TCRC as well as other ITV sites throughout the South Central region.  “Ozarks Beef Production Systems – ITV Seminar Series” should be helpful to anyone considering improving forage and beef cattle management, reducing costs and adding value to their beef enterprise. The program is designed to help beef producers identify specific opportunities and challenges in Ozark beef production systems, and assimilate options that beef producers should find both practical and profitable. Seminars will be instructed by Ted Cunningham, Extension Livestock Specialist, and Will McClain, Extension Agronomy Specialist and will being at 7:00 pm lasting about two hours. In Basketball, Senior C.J. Smith was selected for the All SCA Second Team and Senior Grant Gordan was name to the All SCA Honorable Mention team. C.J Smith was also named to the Class 4 District 9 All District Team. Congratulations to these boys on a fine season.

The Missouri Football Tigers have promoted Dave Steckel to defensive coordinator and Barry Odom to safeties coach.

Joe Mather went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs to help lead the Cardinals past the Marlins, 8-4, in spring training action. Albert Pujols ended 2-for-3 and drove in a run for St. Louis, while Jarrett Hoffpauir, Tyler Greene and Brian Barden also drove in a run apiece. Todd Wellemeyer lasted five frames and gave up three runs, one earned, on three hits. Mitchell Boggs tossed two innings of perfect relief to get the win.

Billy Butler smacked a three-run homer and Mitch Maier belted a two-run shot to lead the Royals to a 9-2 victory over the Mariners in spring training action. Derrick Robinson and Mike Jacobs each drove in and scored a run for Kansas City. Gil Meche gave up two runs on five hits over 2 1/3 innings of work, while Heath Phillips threw two innings of one-hit ball to get the win.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will be in action tonight against Texas Tech starting at about 8:00 on KSMO Radio. Missouri drew a bye in the first round that was played last night as they were seeded third. If Missouri wins, they will play Friday night at 8:30.

The St. Louis Blues will face the San Jose Sharks tonight at 7:30. KSMO will air the first period before having to break away for the Missouri Tiger Basketball game at about 8:15. The Blues will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 1:00 against Detroit.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed cornerback Travis Daniels.

The St. Louis Rams inked a pair of free agents in safety James Butler and fullback Mike Karney and released longtime offensive tackle Orlando Pace.

Funeral Mass for Ross Lee Green of Salem, age 61, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rosary recited at 10:30. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral services for Mayonne Gregory of Salem, age 59, will be Friday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Phyllis L. Roam of Salem, age 77, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ruth Reynolds of Salem, age 88, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) until service time. Interment will be it the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Shirley Miller of St. James, age 76, will be held Saturday at 9:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Florissant. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mandy Smith Gray of Sullivan, formerly of Steelville will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Britton Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Home Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials may be given to the BJC Hospice or the New Home Cemetery.
