The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Ralph Williams from Investment Realty in Rolla was in attendance to discuss some properties available that he thought the county may have an interest in. They were the old US Bank location on Fourth Street as well as 2.6 acres of property on Highway 32-72 East across from the county maintenance shed. He left some information about the locations and told the commissioners if they are interested to let him know and he will present the offer. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that workers are servicing county truck #71. He went on to say that they are adding rock to Dent County Roads 4210, 5390 and 6460; and doing some patch grading on county road 4210. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that another worker had to go to Springfield to get more oil for chip and seal patching. He said that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 4280, and that patch grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 4055, 4060 and 4480. Larson wanted to let the public know that the commissioners are aware that there are a lot of potholes on numerous roads, but after the last rain, the roads are simply too soft to do any constructive grading. These roads will be addressed once the roads dry out. Larson also said that two men would be working at the gravel plant. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation meeting on Tuesday. The board reviewed the audit for the MCEC and it was fine. He also said that he testified at a Senate Ag Committee hearing on Senate Bill 299 that would make the Missouri Department of Conservation responsible for damages created by the elk that are to be released in Missouri, including personal damages. He said that former commissioner and Dent County Farmer Bobby Simpson also testified in favor of the bill at the hearing. At the last meeting, the commissioners agreed to sign the annual agreement for the MAC legal services for $1,200. The figure is based on the county’s assessed valuation. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at the courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
