The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5450, 5460, 6020 and 6460. The rest of the District 1 crew would be working in the shop on spreader racks. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on the white rock roads around town and in the Lenox area, and the rest of the District 2 crew would be putting up the last of the new four digit road signs. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he would be attended a Community Betterment Association Board meeting Monday afternoon and will attend a Meramec Community Enhancement meeting today in St. James. Skiles also said that he would be doing a radio program on KSMO 1340 AM on the second and fourth Fridays of every month at 8:30 am, informing citizens of what the Commission has been doing and what special topics of interest might be going on. The first of these programs will air this Friday at 8:30 am on KSMO. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the last day to register to vote for the April Municipal Election is this Wednesday. Curley also said that she received documentation on the new statutes for the board of equalization. Wilma Rowden from Senator Frank Barnitz’s office came by the meeting to see if the Commission had any concerns they would like the Senator to address and just to update the Commission on bills that Senator Barnitz was working on. At the previous meeting, the Commission opened bids for chip and seal and the bid was awarded to Blevins Asphalt for a single layer at $0.78 per square yard and for a double layer at $1.80 per square yard. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

Due to inclement weather, the Salem R-80 schools have now missed 10 days. The order of the makeup days as approved on the 2007-2008 calendar is as follows: May 16^th, 19^th, 20^th, 21^st, 22^nd, and 23^rd. These scheduled makeup days will take care of the first eight days missed, using the two for one formula for districts that have missed more than six days of school due to weather. One additional makeup day needs to be added to fulfill the state requirement for attendance days. In meeting with Oak Hill R-1. Green Forest R-2, Dent-Phelps R-3 and Northwood R-4 district administrators and using the results of the survey, the recommendation to the Board of Education is to use Monday, March 24^th to meet the aforementioned requirement. If two (2) more days are missed, April 25^th and March 21^st (Good Friday) will be used.

An accident occurred at 7:20 Monday night in Dent County on Dent County Road 6150 about nine-tenths of a mile south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by 48-year old Kenneth Piatt of Salem, lost control and slid into the east ditch and overturned. Piatt suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Salem hospital by Salem ambulance. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Explorer was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Whitaker Towing of Salem. Piatt was cited for driving while intoxicated, driving while his license revoked, and careless and imprudent driving.

An accident happened Sunday afternoon at 3:50 in Texas County on Route W about five miles southeast of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Jeep driven by 46-year old Sheldon Hogan of Salem was traveling eastbound on Route W. Hogan ran off the right side of the roadway, over corrected, then traveled into a ditch and overturned. Hogan suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Texas County Memorial by ambulance. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Jeep sustained extensive damage and was towed by Tri-Angle Towing. Hogan was issued a summons for C and I driving.

At the Winter Athletic Banquet held Monday night at the Salem High School Cafeteria, awards were handed out in both girls and boys basketball: In girls basketball, Jennifer Herndon was presented the JV Award. Coach Phillip Karr then handed out awards to the varsity that included the Tendex Award to Allison Jones, the Attitude Award to Hannah Kettner, the Newcomer of the Year Award to Sara Barton, the Defensive Player of the Year Award to Jessica Brand, the Hustle Award to Shawna Ruben, and the Offensive Player of the Year and the Most Complete Player Award went to Natalie Howard. For the Boys, Phillip Moser was presented the JV Coaches Award before Coach Wrightsman handed out his awards. The Most Rebound and Best Field Goal Percentage Awards went to Taylor Sirois, the Best Free Throw Percentage and Most Assists Awards went to C.J. Smith, and the best 3-Point Shooting Percentage Award went to Zach Pitchford. The Mr. Hustle Award went to Cody Wofford, the Most Improved Award went to Grant Gordon, the Most Complete Player Award went to C.J. Smith, the Mental Attitude Award went to Luke Heithold and the team MVP went to Taylor Sirois. SCA selections will be made tonight in both boys and girls basketball.

Jarome Iginla became Calgary's all-time leading goal scorer, posting marker No. 365 to guide the Flames past St. Louis, 7-3, at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Brad Boyes scored twice and David Backes had the other goal for the Blues, who have dropped the first three on a season-high nine-game road swing. Manny Legace was pulled in favor of Hannu Toivonen after a poor first period. Each netminder allowed three goals. The Blues will be in Edmonton tonight at 8:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO.

Jair Jurrjens allowed just two hits over four scoreless innings to earn the win, as the Atlanta Braves topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-1, in a Grapefruit League contest. Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright was saddled with the loss, surrendering two runs on four hits and three walks in five innings. Juan Gonzalez led the offensive attack, going 2-for-4, while Brian Barton had an RBI single.

Damon Hollins went 3-for-3 with five runs batted in and two runs scored as the Kansas City Royals pounded the San Francisco Giants, 15-6, in Cactus League action. Mark Teahen and Ryan Shealy hit solo home runs, while Jason Smith, Miguel Olivo and Alberto Callaspo finished with two his apiece. Hideo Nomo earned the win, going three innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits.

Funeral services for Dorothy “Dottie” McCoy of Cherryville, age 79, will be held Wednesday at 12:00. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Martin Cemetery, Cherryville. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Hospice of St. Louis.

Funeral services for Deloris A. Jordan of Katy, Texas, formerly of St. James, age 57, will be held Wednesday at 7:00 at the Forest City Christian Church in St. James. Visitation will be from 4:00 until service time. Interment will be it in the Carr Cemetery. A Special Family service will be held Thursday at the Carr School House. Memorials are suggested to the Forest City Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Kenneth Dean Tucker of Rolla, age 72, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. Interment will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Doolittle.

Funeral services for Wilbert F. Zimmer of St. James, age 82, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the St. John Lutheran Church in St. James. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:00 Thursday. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery with full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for David G. Brandt Jr. of St. James, age 83, will be held Friday at 12:00 (noon) at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00.
