Chris Stewart scored his second goal of the game 54 seconds into overtime, as St. Louis overcame a three-goal deficit to stun Columbus, 4-3, at Nationwide Arena. Stewart tied the contest in the third period, minutes after Ian Cole scored his first NHL goal for the Blues, who swept the home-and-home series over the last three days. Jaroslav Halak made 19 saves, including just five in the third period, to earn the win. The Blues will host the Montreal Canadiens tonight at 7:00. Marcus Denmon scored 20 points to lead the sixth-seeded Missouri Tigers past the 11th-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders, 88-84, in a Big 12 Championship opening round matchup from the Sprint Center. Michael Dixon had 17 points for Missouri (23-9), which advanced to play Texas A&M in a quarterfinal contest tonight. Kim English and Justin Safford added 15 and 10 points, respectively. Missouri junior guard Marcus Denmon was named a first team All-Big 12 selection. Also rewarded were Ricardo Ratliffe who was named as the Big 12's Newcomer of the Year and was named to the All-Rookie Team. Both Ratliffe and junior Laurence Bowers were honorable mention All-Big 12 selections. Bowers was also named to the league's All-Defensive Team.
David Freese belted a two-run homer and Jon Jay had three RBI to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the Atlanta Braves, 6-1, in a Grapefruit League game. Cardinal’s starter Kyle Lohse earned the win in four innings of work, giving up a run on four hits with three strikeouts. Luis Salazar, a manager for the Braves' Class A Advanced team, was injured during the game when he was struck in the face by a Brian McCann foul ball while sitting in the dugout. Salazar lost consciousness and was airlifted to a hospital in Orlando.
Melky Cabrera hit a three-run triple in the Royals' five-run first inning, and Kansas City cruised to a 13-4 rout of the Chicago Cubs in a Cactus League contest. Cabrera added a double, while Alex Gordon went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Mitch Maier had a solo shot for the Royals, who got four innings from starter Bruce Chen. He gave up two runs on three hits and three walks, and struck out four.
