The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 5610, 6280 and 6283. He also said that gravel would be hauled to Dent County Road 5150 and then it would be graded. Purcell said that workers would also be checking the county roads for debris or downed trees from the storm on Sunday. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that workers would be working on truck #114 and grader #28. He said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4260 and 4280, and that gravel would be added to Dent County Road 3140 and then it would be graded. Larson said that he and Charlie Malone checked Dent County Road 3350 to make sure that edge rutting was working. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles wanted to thank the storm spotters from the rural fire departments who were out Sunday. He also wanted to thank Emergency Management Director Brad Nash and Assistant Director Alan Kimrey for their work on Sunday as well. Skiles said that he would be attending a Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation meeting in St. James today, and he and Commissioner Purcell would be attending the Top of the Ozarks RC & D meeting on Wednesday in Houston. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that this Wednesday will be the last day to register to vote in the Municipal Election in April, and that she and the Dent County Treasurer’s books balanced on all accounts. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held on Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving traffic stop, theft and property damage. On Saturday, March 7th at 12:50 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a speeding violation that led to the arrest of a 33-year old Salem man for possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, March 8th at 4:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted in reference to a stolen Ipod. The victim stated they had loaned the Ipod to an individual at the Salem Jr. High on Thursday, March 5th. The ipod is valued at $230.00 On Sunday, March 8th at 4:54 p.m. an officer was detailed to McGrath Lane in reference to property damage. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown had done graffiti marking on a box trailer. At 5:50 that evening, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of East Gibbs in reference to a theft. The report revealed a washer and dryer set had been stolen. The washer and dryer are valued at $100.00. Anyone with any information regarding the thefts or property damage reports, which as still under investigation, is asked to please call the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

An accident occurred at 2:45 Sunday afternoon in Dent County on County Road 4110 about one mile east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Chevrolet driven by 43-year old William Miller of Salem was traveling southbound on, while a 2003 Dodge driven by 41-year old Monica Cope of Salem was traveling eastbound on County Road 4110. The accident happened as the Chevrolet failed to yield to the Dodge. Cope suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Cope was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. It is not known if Miller was wearing a seat restraint. The Chevrolet sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene. The Dodge sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker Towing of Salem.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform edge rut repair on Route 68 in Phelps County from Route 8 to Route JJ beginning Tuesday, March 10th.  Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 4 p.m.  Edge rut repair work requires placing material at the edge of the roadway and is necessary to reduce shoulder drop off. While performing this function, crews and equipment are located directly on or near the roadway. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when moving through the work zone. The City of Salem will be sealing cracks on the asphalted roads for the next couple of weeks. The crack sealing started Monday afternoon and the first section will be from East Rubenstein to Highway 32 to Highway 19 to Babb Lane.

The Dent County Historical Society continues their dinner speaker series tonight with Dr. Brooks Blevins who will present a power point presentation at the Salem TCRC on an overview of the Ozarks. Diner will be at 5;00 at the Pizza Inn for a charge, and the presentation will follow at 6:30 at the Salem TCRC. For more information, call Deloris Gray Wood at 729-2545.

The Basketball Sports Banquet will be held tonight at 6:30 at the high school cafeteria. The boys and girls teams as well as the cheerleaders will be honored. The players, cheerleaders and their parents are welcome to attend.

The St. Louis Blues continue their push for a playoff spot as they host the Dallas Stars tonight starting at 7:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio. The Blues are currently four points out of a playoff spot.

The Cardinals had the day off yesterday in Spring Training action and will face Detroit today.

Alfonso Soriano clubbed a two-run homer and So Taguchi finished with three RBI, as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Kansas City Royals, 9-1, in Cactus League action. Brain Bannister got the start for Kansas City and was tagged for four runs on five hits in three innings on the mound. Mitch Maier knocked in the Royals' lone run.

The Kansas City Royals have released infielder Esteban German.

Funeral services for Donald Arthur Harper of Steelville, age 92, will be held today at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Chapel in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral Mass for Ross Lee Green of Salem, age 61, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rosary recited at 10:30. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral services for Mayonne Gregory of Salem, age 59, will be Friday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Phyllis L. Roam of Salem, age 77, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
