The Salem Police Department released their reports involving the theft of fuel, a well being check and a theft. On Tuesday, March 3rd at 8:00 pm, an officer was dispatched to the BP Convenience Store located at the junction of Highways 19 and 32 in reference to theft of fuel.  The report revealed that a male driving a green GMC pickup truck pumped $10.00 in fuel and left without paying.  On Wednesday, March 4th at 12:12 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 400 block of East First in reference to check the well-being of a resident. Officers gained entry to the residence and found that 70-year old Kenneth E. Asher of Salem had died of apparent natural causes. On Wednesday, March 4th at 3:54 pm, an officer was sent to the Ozark Information Center located in the 900 block of Highway 19 South in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a blonde male in his 20’s between 5’10” – 6’00” tall, took a Dent County blanket valued at $50.00 from the front porch of the building.  Anyone with any information regarding the thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of February. During the month, they wrote 20 traffic tickets, two warning tickets and one equipment repair order, and they served 14 summons to appear in court. The Salem Police Department investigated 11 accidents, two assaults, one domestic assault, one ex parte violation, and one report of driving while intoxicated. The Police Department also investigated nine reports of stealing, five reports of property damage, two reports of disorderly conduct, one report of harassment, one report of stalking, one report of rape, and one report of leaving the scene of an accident. They also investigated one report of possession of marijuana and one report of possession of synthetic drugs. A total of eight Salem Police Department personnel attended Defensive Driving Training in Jefferson City as part of their continuing education. The Salem Police Department redirected 62 calls to the animal control officer. The calls in February included 16 calls for escorts, nine 9-1-1 calls, one intoxicated driver investigation, one call for a peace disturbance, one call for a prowler, 12 ambulance assist calls, three calls for alarms sounding, two calls for fights in progress, eight domestic dispute calls, two calls for an intoxicated pedestrian, three fire calls and two wreckers were needed. The Salem Police Department arrested 10 males and three females during the month of February.

An accident happened Saturday evening at 10:58 on Phelps County on Highway 63 about a mile north of Edgar Springs. According to the highway patrol report, 19-year old Jessica Harris of Edgar Springs, was driving a 1997 Chevy Cavalier northbound when she struck 49-year old Douglas E. Decker of Edgar Springs who was in the roadway. Decker suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. The Cavalier sustained moderate damages and was driven from the scene.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announced the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has approved plans to move forward with the realignment of a section of Highway 32 in Dent County. Work is expected to begin this spring and be completed by fall 2009. According to MoDOT, safety on this section of Highway 32 will be greatly improved as a result of this project. This project involves grading, drainage work and resurfacing the roadway with 2-foot paved shoulders. The section of road scheduled for realignment will begin east of Highway 119 and extend just west of Route F intersection, approximately 1.3 miles. The project was awarded to H. R. Quadri Contractors, LLC of Van Buren, Mo., at a total cost of $1,072,758.15.

Severe weather rolled through the area Sunday morning, but no major damage was reported in the Dent County area. At 9:38 in Edgar Springs, there was significant damage done to a garage as well as trees and fences. Numerous roofs were also damaged and windows were blown out of some buildings. At 10:03 in the morning, tree damage was reported near Steelville in Crawford County just south of Wesco. The National Weather Service will hold their annual tornado drill this Tuesday at 1:30. Since there is the possibility of thunderstorms on Tuesday, the test may be postponed until Thursday at 1:30. This is an opportunity for businesses and homes to go through a practice run as if there were an actual tornado warning.

Donald Sloan led five Texas A&M players in double figures with 16 points, as the Aggies upended 15th-ranked Missouri, 96-86, at Reed Arena Saturday afternoon. DeMarre Carroll had 18 points to pace Missouri (25-6, 12-4), which lost two of three to end its regular season. Zaire Taylor scored 17 for the Tigers, while Matt Lawrence had 16 points. Justin Safford and Leo Lyons had 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Missouri.

Ricky Nolasco hurled four innings of shutout ball and the Florida Marlins hung on for a 9-8 win over St. Louis. Adam Wainwright took his second loss of the Spring, allowing three runs -- one earned -- on four hits and two walks in 2 2/3 frames for the Cardinals, who scored all of their runs in the fifth inning. Albert Pujols went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI, and Joe Thurston knocked in a pair of runs in the loss. The Cardinals committed six errors on the day.

Billy Butler drove in a run and scored once as Kansas City used a seven-run first inning to down Milwaukee, 7-1, in Cactus League action. Luis Hernandez, Coco Crisp, Brayan Pena, Corey Smith and Shane Costa all knocked in a run for the Royals. Zack Greinke started and picked up the win by yielding three hits over 3 1/3 frames.

David Booth's second career hat trick lifted the Florida Panthers to a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Blues Saturday in a matchup of two teams battling for a playoff berth in their respective conferences. David Backes scored twice and Brad Boyes once for St. Louis. The Blues return home Tuesday to face the Dallas Stars.

Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with safety Jon McGraw and linebacker Darrell Robertson.

The Basketball Sports Banquet will be held Tuesday at 6:30 at the high school cafeteria. Players, cheerleaders and parents are welcome to attend.

Funeral services service for Edith E. Duckworth of Edwardsville, Illinois, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held today at noon at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ruby Jewel Hejkal of Salem, age 91, will be held at 11:00 this morning at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Redbud Memorial Garden Cemetery at Potosi.

Funeral services for Donald Arthur Harper of Steelville, age 92, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral Mass for Ross Lee Green of Salem, age 61, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rosary recited at 10:30. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral services for Mayonne Gregory of Salem, age 59, will be Friday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society.
