Curtis Jerrells scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Baylor Bears to a 97-83 win over the Missouri Tigers in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament from the Ford Center. Leo Lyons and Matt Lawrence paced the sixth-seeded Tigers (18-12) with 13 points apiece, while Keon Lawrence totaled 12 points in the loss. Stefhon Hannah also tallied 11 points for Missouri, while Kalen Grimes added 10 points. With the win, Baylor moves on to tonight's quarterfinal round where it will face third-seeded Texas.
Lee Stempniak and Brad Boyes tallied a goal and an assist and Doug Weight scored twice, as the St. Louis Blues ended a two-game skid and defeated the Dallas Stars, 5-3, at Scottrade Center. Eric Brewer also scored for the Blues, who will host Montreal on Saturday before a three-game road trip. Curtis Sanford made 24 saves in the victory. Albert Pujols went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the Minnesota Twins, 2-1, in Grapefruit League play. John Rodriguez finished 2-for-2 for the Cardinals, who plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kip Wells got the start and pitched three scoreless innings, while Brian Falkenborg picked up the win despite also registering a blown save. The Cardinals will play Baltimore tomorrow and Atlanta on Sunday. Each game will begin at 11:45 and both can be heard on KSMO Radio.
Alex Gordon had a bases-clearing triple and an RBI double, and Jason LaRue added a two-run homer, as the Kansas City Royals beat up on the Seattle Mariners, 11-3, in Cactus League action. Gordon finished with four RBI and a run scored, and Billy Butler launched a three-run homer in the seventh for Kansas City. Odalis Perez allowed two earned runs on five hits, and also surrendered a walk in his second outing of the spring. Todd Wellemeyer came on in relief and tossed three scoreless frames to pick up the win giving up one hit and also striking out one.
The St. Louis Rams have agreed to terms with free agent tight end Randy McMichael on a three-year contract. McMichael, who released by the Dolphins on Monday, hauled in 62 passes last season for 640 yards and three touchdowns in his fifth season with Miami.
