The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 517, 542, 552, 647, 650 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 240. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 207, 208, 426, 427 and the Golf Course Road. Tune also said that grading would be done and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 524 and a crew would be patching chip and seal on Dent County Road 615. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she attended the Dent County Fire Board meeting Tuesday night, and starting in 2008 the fire station will be the new polling location for voters in the East Spring Creek and East Meramec District. Curley said the reason for the move was for more room, plus the fire station has easier access for those who are handicapped. Curley also reported that the Missouri Ethics Commission would be in Dent County to look over the 2006 Candidate Reports today. Postmaster Don Culver attended the meeting to discuss the issue of rural addressing with the Commission. Culver said the county would need to be re-addressed using a grid layout. This means that addresses would go from either north to south or west to east, leaving enough room between box numbers to allow growth. The Commission said that they would be contacting other counties who have rural addressing and contacting companies who specialize in rural addressing before any further action is taken. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred last Friday afternoon at 4:12 on the Senior Center parking lot. According to the Salem Police report, a grey 1995 Mercury Marquis driven by Helen Bradford of Salem was parked facing east in the Senior Center parking lot. Bradford looked back and did not see anything and started to back up when she felt a bump and knew she hit something. A pedestrian, Gladys Wilson of Salem was walking north from her parking spot behind the Mercury. Wilson saw the back up lights come on but was unable to get out of the way. Wilson suffered injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their monthly membership meeting on Wednesday, March 14^th at the Salem TCRC beginning at noon, with lunch being provided by the Blackberry Patch. CPA Ed Pratt will give a presentation on taxes, and how they affect small businesses. Those planning to attend need to RSVP the Chamber by Friday, March 9^th for an accurate lunch count by calling 729-6900.

On March 6^th at 1:30 in the afternoon, a deputy observed a vehicle parked in the ditch off of Dent County Road 325. Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver pulled out of the ditch and proceeded northbound. A vehicle stop was made and when the driver was identified it was noted there were several warrants from other counties for his arrest. A vehicle search was conducted and taken into evidence were baggies containing a crystalline residue which field tested positive for methamphetamine, syringes, a plastic bag containing a crystalline rock, small pieces of cotton, a plastic drink bottle containing a milky liquid and various other items. The Salem Police Department K-9 was called to assist and alerted on the corner console, which contained other items of drug paraphernalia. As a result 39-year old Dennis E. Loughridge Sr. of St. James was taken into custody and a warrant was issued for Possession of a Controlled Substance with bond set at $7,000.

Curtis Jerrells scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Baylor Bears to a 97-83 win over the Missouri Tigers in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament from the Ford Center. Leo Lyons and Matt Lawrence paced the sixth-seeded Tigers (18-12) with 13 points apiece, while Keon Lawrence totaled 12 points in the loss. Stefhon Hannah also tallied 11 points for Missouri, while Kalen Grimes added 10 points. With the win, Baylor moves on to tonight's quarterfinal round where it will face third-seeded Texas.

Lee Stempniak and Brad Boyes tallied a goal and an assist and Doug Weight scored twice, as the St. Louis Blues ended a two-game skid and defeated the Dallas Stars, 5-3, at Scottrade Center. Eric Brewer also scored for the Blues, who will host Montreal on Saturday before a three-game road trip. Curtis Sanford made 24 saves in the victory. The Blues will host Montreal Saturday night at 7:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Albert Pujols went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the Minnesota Twins, 2-1, in Grapefruit League play. John Rodriguez finished 2-for-2 for the Cardinals, who plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kip Wells got the start and pitched three scoreless innings, while Brian Falkenborg picked up the win despite also registering a blown save. The Cardinals will play Baltimore tomorrow and Atlanta on Sunday. Each game will begin at 11:45 and both can be heard on KSMO Radio.

Alex Gordon had a bases-clearing triple and an RBI double, and Jason LaRue added a two-run homer, as the Kansas City Royals beat up on the Seattle Mariners, 11-3, in Cactus League action. Gordon finished with four RBI and a run scored, and Billy Butler launched a three-run homer in the seventh for Kansas City. Odalis Perez allowed two earned runs on five hits, and also surrendered a walk in his second outing of the spring. Todd Wellemeyer came on in relief and tossed three scoreless frames to pick up the win giving up one hit and also striking out one.

The St. Louis Rams have agreed to terms with free agent tight end Randy McMichael on a three-year contract. McMichael, who released by the Dolphins on Monday, hauled in 62 passes last season for 640 yards and three touchdowns in his fifth season with Miami.

Funeral services for Peggy S. Allison of Salem, age 74, will be held today at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service for Norma J. Greeno of Rolla, age 46, will be held today at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.

Funeral services for John Hall Livingston Sr. of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Elk Prairie, age 94, will be held on Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Elk Prairie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, MO.
