The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said the crews were installing a crossover on Dent County Road 4080. Materials were being hauled to and grading done on Dent County Roads 6090 and 4080. He also mentioned that grading was being done on Dent County Road 5380, and brush was being cut on Dent County Road 5600. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was being done on Dent County Roads 3220, 2313 and 3240, patch grading was being done in the Boss area, and brush was being cut on Dent County Roads 5240 and 2150. He also said that materials were being added to Dent County Roads 3220 and 2313. Commissioner Larson went on to say that brush cutting on the roads in District 2 was in better shape than in the last several years and Commissioner Purcell echoed that for District 1. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported on Monday’s meeting at the Dent County Fire Station concerning the SEMA Regional Emergency Exercise that Dent County would be hosting October 16th. The exercise scenario will be to simulate a severe winter storm that has hit multiple counties. The exercise tentative plans are to simulate fatalities, building collapse, etc. The commissioners’ responsibility will probably deal with clearing county roads for emergency services. Commissioner Skiles also reported on testifying Monday in Jefferson City in support of SB 265.  Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she conducted a voter registration at Salem High School on Wednesday, which was the last day to register for the April election, and that 17 students registered. She went on to say that absentee voting continues for the April 2nd election and that voter registration continues for the June 4 election. MoDOT Engineers Preston Kramer and Dave Silvester stopped by to discuss some projects. Kramer invited the commissioners to attend the “On The Move” meeting in Lebanon on March 19th. The sixteen “On The Move” meetings are being held throughout Missouri and are designed to get public input into developing a 20-year plan for MoDOT. He went on to say that the MRPC Transportation Advisory Committee had made their priorities clear throughout the region, but that is not the case throughout the state. Silvester said that the Senate and House Bills proposing the constitutional amendment to enact a one-cent sales tax for transportation would have a ten year sunset and that 10% would go to counties and cities to assist with their transportation needs. Kramer updated the commissioners on project plans for 2013 and 2014. This year, Highway 19 from Cherryville to Salem, and Highway 32 East from Salem to the Highway 32-72 Junction will be widened from 20’ to 24’, have rumble strips installed and will receive a 1” overlay. Next year, Highway 19 from Salem to Route KK in Shannon County will have the same work done. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams came in with sales tax update. February receipts were $70,798.66, up from the $66,089.51 for February of 2012, but still $4,164.56 below the 2012 year-to-date figures. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be held Monday at 9:00 AM at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
