An accident occurred Tuesday afternoon at 4:45 in Reynolds County on Highway 21 about one mile north of Lesterville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1987 Chevrolet driven by 28-year old Brian Hunter of Bunker, was traveling southbound on Highway 21 following a 1993 Ford driven by 61-year old Candice Andruska of Lesterville. The Ford stopped in the roadway and the Chevrolet could not stop and ran into the left side of the Ford as it was turning. Andruska suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Ellington Medical Center. The Ford was totaled in the accident and was towed from the scene by Wisdoms Towing of Ellington. The Chevrolet sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene by the owner.

Horseshoe Bend Development Group has announced that Jadwin Forest Products of Salem has begun logging operations on the corridor for the new two-mile stretch of Horseshoe Bend Parkway across the Interior District of Lake Ozark. The new four-lane divided roadway will stimulate the development of approximately 1,500 acres of unimproved land in the Interior District of the City over the next decade. Logging of the right-of-way is the first phase of the 21-month construction process that will ultimately produce a new four-lane divided roadway for the City of Lake Ozark. McClure Engineering Company with offices in Lake Ozark, Missouri, as well as Iowa and Arizona has been retained to design the Horseshoe Bend roadway and interior district infrastructure improvements. The logging phase is expected to be completed by the end of June 2007. On February 7, 2007, MODOT Commissioners approved the three-party agreement between the Horseshoe Bend Transportation Development District, the City of Lake Ozark and MODOT that commits the development of Horseshoe Bend Parkway from Bagnell Dam Boulevard to Highway 54 by December 31, 2008. The Horseshoe Bend Parkway extension will ultimately connect to MODOT’s new US 54 Expressway to be constructed through Lake Ozark and Osage Beach, is projected to be completed by December 31, 2010. As proposed, the 2-mile $17 million Horseshoe Bend Parkway extension is to be privately financed and backed by a pledge from the Horseshoe Bend Transportation Development District sales tax.

Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday March 11th. YES…it’s that time once again to spring forward an hour. You can set your clock ahead an hour before you go to bed Saturday night or change it Sunday morning. Either way you choose, be sure and set your clock ahead one hour this weekend. This time change is two weeks earlier that it used to be.

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission will hold a public meeting tonight at its office located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James beginning at 7:30 PM. After the approval of several contracts, there will be a presentation by the Central Ozarks Private Industry Council Director Jan Vaughn on the employment and training services that it offers. There will be a presentation from the Transportation Advisory Committee Assistant Director Bonnie Prigge established back in 1994 on the committees role in transportation planning. Tammy Snodgrass will give an update on solid waste activities and will also report on the Homeland Security Oversight Committee activities. Dawn Warren will report on MREPC activities, Tom Klebba will report on business loan activity and T.R. Dudley will report on workforce development activities. Director Richard Cavender will report on the MRPC current activities in his director’s report. The regular meeting of the MRPC tonight is open to the public.

At the Salem Basketball Sports Banquet, there were numerous awards handed out to the Girls and Boys basketball Tigers. Coach Travis Wrightsman presented the Best Defensive Award to Solomon McNeal, the Best Outside Shooter Award to C. J. Smith, the Newcomer of the Year Award to Cody Wofford, the Mr. Hustle Award to Alex Heitman, the Most Improved Award went to Jordan Davis, the Sixth-Man Award went to Brad Lewis, the Coach’s Award went to Josh Hafner and the Mike Johnson Mental Toughness Award was presented to Matt Whitaker. The Team Most Valuable Player Award was given to Taylor Sirois. The JV Player of the Year for the Boys went to Zach Pitchford presented by Coach Carey Davison. All the senior boys were given a game jersey in a display frame with their number. For the Lady Tigers, Coach Phillip Karr presented the Most Improved Player Award to Hannah Kettner, the “Gut” Award to Jessica Brand, The “R” School Award and Tendex Award to Allison Jones, the All-Around Award and You’re in Good Hands Award to Natalie Howard; the Defensive Player of the Year Award, Hustle Award and Practice Player of the Year Award all went to Kirsten Stephens. Karr then gave out the Respect Award to Caitlin Smith and honored her with a District Championship Ball signed by all her teammates.

The St. Louis Blues will face the Dallas Stars tonight at 7:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will face Baylor tonight in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. KSMO will interrupt the Blues game to bring the MU game at about 8:15.

Skip Schumaker knocked in three runs on three hits to lead a 12-hit St. Louis attack as the Cardinals downed the LA Dodgers, 11-1. Braden Looper threw 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing four hits, to earn the win for St. Louis. Chris Duncan, John Rodriguez, and Edgar V. Gonzalez all homered for the Cardinals.

Andres Blanco had two hits, two RBI and scored a run as Kansas City used a five-run ninth inning to top the Chicago White Sox, 10-5, in spring training action. Justin Huber smacked a double and drove in two runs while scoring twice for the Royals, who outhit Chicago 15-11. Buckner earned the win, despite yielding four runs -- one earned -- on five hits in two innings of work.

Funeral services for Peggy S. Allison of Salem, age 74, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service for Norma J. Greeno of Rolla, age 46, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.

Funeral services for John Hall Livingston Sr. of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Elk Prairie, age 94, will be held on Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Elk Prairie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, MO.

A private memorial service will be held March 17^th for Elizabeth H. Ortmann of Salem, age 54. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
