The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting Commissioners Bobby Simpson and J.J. Tune both reported that crews have been clearing snow from roadways the past couple of days and are now doing some routine maintenance on the equipment that was used. Other crew members would be putting up the new four digit road signs and Commissioner Tune said that a couple District 2 crew members would be in the Stone Hill area clearing debris from low water bridges. At the meeting Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles signed an Intergovernmental Agreement between Dent, Shannon and Reynolds County and the City of Bunker in support of a new Bunker Firehouse and Community Center. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that if you have had an address change since the last election, to please contact the clerk’s office with that new information. Also at the meeting, the Commission sent a letter to state legislatures in opposition of Senate Bill 1193, which would fix a county sheriff’s salary at 65% of the county’s Associate judge’s salary. This would increase the Dent County Sheriffs salary from $44,000 to $65,900 that the county would have to pay for.  The Commission opposed this bill because it singled out one office holder. The Commission also met with Dent County Emergency Management Director Brad Nash to discuss the revisions to the counties emergency management plan and they opened up bids for chip and seal at 10:30. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened at 12:45 am Tuesday morning on Highway 32. According to the Salem Police report, a black 1999 Ford Ranger driven by 49-year old Glenn Tolias of Salem was traveling west on Highway 32. Tolias turned north into an empty parking lot west of Warfel, traveled north on the lot, lost control on the snow and ice and struck a concrete retaining wall. According to the Salem Police report, Tolias suffered injuries. The Ford Ranger sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker Towing of Salem. The concrete wall sustained moderate damage.

Kathleen Carpenter of Chariton County and Dan Devlin of Knox County were recently appointed to serve on the Soil and Water Districts Commission for a term of three years. The state Soil and Water Districts Commission formulates policies and general programs for the saving of Missouri soil and water by soil and water conservation districts. It is composed of six farmer members and four ex-officio members. The farmer members are appointed by the governor and approved by the senate. The four ex-officio members consist of the directors of the departments of natural resources, agriculture, conservation and the dean of the college of agriculture of the University of Missouri. During the first meeting of each calendar year, members select a chairman and a vice chairman. Current commissioners include chairman Leon Kreisler of Dent County, vice-chairman Richard Fordyce of Harrison County, Kathryn Braden of Taney County, and Baughn Merideth of Pemiscot County. Missouri voters passed a one-tenth-of-one-percent parks, soils and water sales tax in 1984 to fund state parks and soil conservation efforts. Prior to its passage, Missouri had the second highest rate of erosion in the nation. Almost two-thirds of Missouri voters renewed the tax in 1988 and 1996. In 2006, the tax passed by more than 70 percent, its highest percentage to date. Since 1982, Missouri has reduced its rate of soil erosion more than any other state, saving more than 148 million tons of soil. Albert Pujols went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, as the St. Louis Cardinals slugged their way to a 5-2 win over the Florida Marlins in spring training action. Skip Schumaker and Joe Mather each went 3-for-4 with a homer for the Cardinals, while Mather also doubled. Todd Wellemeyer allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings in the start, giving up two hits and four walks, while striking out four. Jason Isringhausen picked up the win with a perfect inning of relief. The Cards will face the LA Dodgers Saturday and the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, both games starting at 11:55 on KSMO Radio.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols will not undergo surgery this season, the team announced on their website Thursday. The six-time All-Star needs to have a "Tommy John" reconstructive procedure on his chronically injured right elbow, but team physician Dr. George Paletta stated that Pujols would be better off waiting until the end of this season. Had he opted to undergo the procedure now, it could have sidelined him for the upcoming season. Pujols, 28, has a torn ulnar collateral ligament, bone spurs, arthritis and swelling in his elbow - all results of a minor injury the slugger suffered in 2003. After visiting with surgeon Dr. James Andrews earlier this year, it was determined that he will eventually need to undergo the operation which will sideline him up to eight months. Over seven years in the majors, all with St. Louis, he has a .332 average with 282 home runs and 861 runs batted in over 1,091 games. He has reached the 30 home run mark in each season of his career and four times hit the 40-home run mark.

Ryan Shealy hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Kansas City Royals over the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-3, in Cactus League action. Billy Butler went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, and Ross Gload was 2-for-3 for Kansas City. Zack Greinke gave up three runs in a three-inning start, and Carlos Rosa picked up the win after tossing a scoreless ninth.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers regular season comes to an end tomorrow when they face Oklahoma at 2:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio. They are 16-14 on the year.

The St. Louis Blues will continue their nine-game road trip Saturday night in Vancouver when they face the Canucks. You can hear the game on KSMO starting at 9:00.
