The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports for the first of March involving thefts and burglaries. On March 2nd, a report was received of two 950-amp batteries taken from a semi-truck located at a residence located off of Route HH. The incident was reported to have occurred on February 16th. Also on March 2nd, there was a report of a burglary at a residence located between Dent County Roads 651 and 652 that could have occurred in the last four months. Reported taken from the residence was a Honeywell space heater. Entry was gained by prying a lock hasp off the front door. Locks had also been removed from two outbuildings, and louvers removed from a door of one of the buildings. On March 3rd, a report was received of a missing 3rd stage cow from a location off of Highway 68 north. On March 4th, a report of a burglary was received from a residence located off of Highway 19 north. There was no forcible entry to the residence and it was reported that $200 had been taken from the residence and under $20 was reported taken from a vehicle parked at the location. Also on March 4th, a report was received of medications being taken from a vehicle parked outside a business located off of Highway 32 west. The medications are valued at $19.40. Anyone with any information regarding the aforementioned incidents is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Dent County Soil and Water Conservation District’s 46th Annual Meeting will be held Thursday, March 15th at the United Methodist Church. Registration starts at 5:30, workshops begin at 6:00 and dinner will start at 7:15. At the meeting, the district will receive the DNR “Director’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Implementation of Best Management Practices on Grasslands.” This award is based on the work the district has done in implementing the Best Management Practices on grasslands during the fiscal year 2006. On Thursday March 8th, there will be a National Animal Identification System informational meeting at the Civic Center in West Plains, Missouri. The meeting begins at 7pm and should last approximately 2-3 hours. Confirmed speakers are Ray Cunio, Russell Wood, Bob Parker and Doreen Hannes. The Missouri Department of Agriculture, the USDA, the Missouri Cattlemen's and Farm Bureau have all been invited. Please come and learn about this program and the effects it will have on you. The address for the West Plains Civic Center is 110 St. Louis (behind the police department) in West Plains, Missouri. Landowners can learn about the state's fence laws. Missouri continues to have a very complicated fence law, in large part due to the fact that two separate laws cover the state depending on the county that your land is in. Another problem is that both laws are subject to interpretation and can be a little different, depending on the county you’re in. A comparison of both laws will be given at this program. Joe Koenen, Agricultural Business Specialist with University of Missouri Extension will be presenting a program and he has been presenting programs on the fence law for over 15 years throughout the state. Landowners need to be aware of what the law is in their county and this meeting will help them better understand their rights and responsibilities. This University of Missouri Extension workshop’s purpose is educational. The workshop will be held at the Salem TCRC located in the Salem Freedom Activity Center on Monday, March 19th from 7 to 9:30 PM. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers placed three players on the All-SCA Teams while the Lady Tigers placed four players on the All-SCA Conference Teams selected Monday night in the All-Conference Selection meeting.

For the Lady Tigers, junior Kirsten Stephens was named to the All-SCA First Team, while junior Natalie Howard and sophomore Allison Jones were selected for the All-SCA Second Team. Named to the All-SCA Honorable Mention was sophomore Hannah Kettner for the Lady Tigers. Kirsten Stephens was then named the All-SCA Most Valuable Player for the second straight year. Congratulations Lady Tigers on a fine season!!

For the Salem Boys Basketball Tigers, junior Taylor Sirois was named to the All-SCA First Team while senior Solomon McNeal was honored by being selected to the All-SCA Second Team. Sophomore C.J. Smith was named to the All-SCA Honorable Mention Team. Coach Travis Wrightsman was named the SCA Coach of the Year for the second straight year! Congratulations Tigers!!

Craig Conroy posted two goals and an assist against his old team and Wayne Primeau scored the game-winning goal with Calgary shorthanded as the Flames rallied for a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Petr Cajanek and Radek Dvorak each scored and Curtis Sanford made 28 saves for the Blues, who have dropped two straight and three of five. The Blues for the second straight game squandered a two-goal lead in a game. They will be back in action Thursday night when they host the Dallas Stars.

Nick Markakis was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, helping Baltimore into a 2-2 tie with St. Louis in a spring training contest. Aubrey Huff finished 1-of-2 at the plate and knocked in both runs for theOrioles. Aaron Miles and Eli Marrero drove in a run each for the Cardinals. Chris Carpenter got the start and went three innings giving up two hits and one run. He also struck out two and walked a pair.

Jason LaRue's two home runs paced Kansas City to a 3-2 10-inning win over Oakland in a Cactus League contest. Reggie Sanders went 2-for-2 with a walk, and Brian Bannister gave up two hits and a run in three innings of work. Leo Nunez got the win in one full inning of relief.

A memorial service for Norma J. Greeno of Rolla, age 46, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.

Funeral services for John Hall Livingston Sr. of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Elk Prairie, age 94, will be held on Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Elk Prairie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, MO.

A private memorial service will be held March 17th for Elizabeth H. Ortmann of Salem, age 54. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Peggy Allison of Salem, age 74, are incomplete at this time but are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
