An accident occurred at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 32 about three miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 70-year old Howard Goforth of Salem was backing into a shed and struck a pedestrian, 70-year old Sharion Goforth of Salem. She suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Salem EMS to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. No one was wearing a seat restraint the time of the accident. There was no damage to the Chevrolet Silverado.

An accident happened early Wednesday morning at 3:30 in Dent County on Highway 32 about a mile and half west of Boss. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 20-year old Jessica Angelico of Plato, was traveling eastbound on Highway 32, when she traveled off the north side of the roadway and overturned. Angelico suffered minor injuries and was taken by Salem EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Cavalier was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.  

At 9:00 am on Wednesday, an accident happened in Texas County on Highway 63 about six miles south of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Ford Windstar driven by 18-year old Desiree Clark of Springfield was traveling south on Highway 63, lost control on the ice covered roadway and slid into the ditch. Clark suffered minor injuries and was taken by the Texas County ambulance to the Texas County Memorial Hospital. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Windstar sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Jay’s Automotive.  

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of February. During the month, they wrote four equipment repair orders, 15 summons to appear in court, 17 warning tickets, and 16 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated eight accidents, one assault, one burglary, four reports of disorderly conduct, three reports of disorderly house, one report of domestic assault, three reports of domestic violence, three reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of felonious restraint, one report of forgery, three reports of leaving the scene. The department also investigated one report of parental kidnapping, three reports for a peace disturbance, five reports of property damage, one report of resisting and/or interfering with an arrest, one report of sexual misconduct, one report of stalking, eight reports of stealing, one report for a towed vehicle, three reports of trespassing, one report of unlawful possession of a firearm and four 96-hour commitments. They also investigated one report distributing/delivering/manufacturing/producing/possession of a controlled substance, one report of possession of marijuana, and one report of possession of drug paraphernalia.  The Salem Police Department also conducted one death investigation. The police department received 1,569 calls for service during the month, handled 130 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 46 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 16 hours in court testifying, and four hours as court bailiff. The calls in February included seven calls for escorts, one call for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, four intoxicated pedestrian calls, 10 calls for domestic disputes, and four calls for a wrecker. There were seven 911 calls, 10 calls for a peace disturbance, seven calls for alarms sounding, three calls for fights in progress, six ambulance assist calls, and one fire call. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 7,583 miles and arrested 20 males and 4 females during the month of February.

The Salem Tigers Boys Basketball Tigers will travel to the School of the Osage for the District Semi-Final against the Rolla Bulldogs tonight at 7:00, weather permitting. Salem enters the game with a 14-10 record and winners of their last five games. The Tigers have lost twice earlier this year to the Bulldogs. The winner will play in the district final Saturday night at 7:30. Admission to the game is $4.00. You can hear the game on KSMO and ksmoradio.com.

The Lady Tigers fell to the Thayer Lady Bobcats Tuesday night by a score of 73-55. Salem was led in scoring by Savannah Hanning with 25 points. The Lady Tigers finish the season with a 17-8 record overall and 6-1 in the SCA. Salem won at least a share of its first SCA title since the 2007 season and could win the title outright pending the outcome of the Thayer and Houston makeup game next Tuesday.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Philadelphia tonight at 5:30. You can hear the beginning of the game on KSMO before Salem Tiger District Basketball.

Eric Hosmer and Royals newcomers Kendrys Morales and Alex Rios hit consecutive first-inning homers, and AL champion Kansas City routed the Texas Rangers 13-2 on Wednesday in the spring training opener for both teams.

The St. Louis Cardinals will face the Miami Marlins in the their spring training opener today at noon.

Funeral services for Rosa Lee Pryor of Boss, age 84, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem and on Saturday from 10:00 until service time at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Boss Assembly of God Church.

A Graveside service for Charles “Chuck” Lammlein of Camdenton formerly of Rolla, age 90, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Sunset Memorial Park St. Louis. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

A Memorial Service for Millard L. Hayes of Cadet, formerly of Salem, age 85, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 until 1:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Jeannie Fishwick of Steelville, age 68, will be held Monday March 9 at 11:00am at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Visitation will be Sunday March 8 from 2-6pm at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home. Interment will be at Pleasent Point Cemetary in Steelville.
