The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 2400, and the materials would be added and patch grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5020, 5080 and 6370. He also mentioned that patch grading would be done on county roads between Routes B and N and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5600. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that workers would be adding materials and working on widening an intersection on Dent County Road 5335 for a school bus. He did indicate that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2150 and 5240. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he would be testifying in support of Senate Bill 265 in Jefferson City today. He said that this bill would prohibit the state of Missouri or any other political subdivision that would infringe or restrict private property rights without due process as may be required as policies related to Agenda 21. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that her office and the collector’s office balanced on all accounts, add-ons and abatements. She also said that the last day to register to vote for the April election would be this Wednesday. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams brought in the quarterly transfer from the General Revenue Fund to the holding account for the Senior Citizens fund in the amount of $18,625. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting at the City Hall Council Chambers Monday night. At the meeting, the board approved the purchase of crushed limestone from Capital Quarries in Dent County that will include 300 ton of one-inch base crushed limestone, 300 ton of two-inch clean crushed limestone and 300 ton of one-inch clean crushed limestone. The total cost of the purchase will be $8,000 and will be divided between four departments. City Administrator Clayton Lucas said that bids on the city health insurance will be due March 14th and Lucas will present them to the board April 1st after reviewing them. He said that the city is rebidding the demolition of the home on McArthur and stated that the city began using their new electric supplier, the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission, on March 1st. The City prepaid the bill for the new supplier and will still need to pay the wheeling fee from Sho-Me Power and the “true-up” from the actual electric usage from March from the prepaid bill. Alderman Kenneth Nash discussed holding a quarterly Open Forum for the alderman to address questions from the public. No action was taken by the board and Administrator Lucas said that people can get on the regular meeting agenda and address the board, or they can come to the budget hearings that will begin late in April or early May. Mayor Brown reported the next Strategic Plan meeting would be held on March 19th, and that he would be in Washington DC this weekend. Brown said that 3,108 people utilized the Salem TCRC and Salem Fitness Center in the Salem Community Center at the Armory. Brown indicated that the city would experience an electric rate increase from $0.0935/kwh to $0.0961/kwh that went into effect on March 1st. Brown stated that City Clerk Mary Happel would be sworn in as President of the City Clerk Association of Missouri on March 13th. The board approved the Spring Clean-Up weeks to be April 15th and April 22nd. The meeting was then adjourned.

The 2012-2013 Salem Tiger Winter Sports Banquet will be held tonight at 6:30 at the high school cafeteria. Those to be honored tonight include the boys and girls basketball teams and the cheerleaders.
The St. Louis Blues will be in L.A. to face the Kings tonight in the first of four games on the West Coast. The Blues are 11-8-2 on the year. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO Radio, starting with the pre-game show at 9:00.
The Missouri Tiger basketball team will host Arkansas tonight in their final home game of the year. Missouri is 21-8 on the year and 16-0 at home. You can hear the game on KSMO at 5:30.
Aaron Hicks went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, as the Minnesota Twins shut out the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-0, in spring training action on Monday. Jon Jay and Daniel Descalso were the only two to register hits for the Cardinals, who have the day off today.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Sunday that the team has shutdown shortstop Rafael Furcal from all baseball activity due to increasing right elbow pain. The veteran switch-hitter had been throwing with limitations since the start of spring training, although the stress and discomfort has now forced him to stop all baseball activity indefinitely.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday but will resume spring training action this afternoon at 2:05 against the Athletics.
The Kansas City Royals announced Saturday that the team has reached agreements on contracts for the upcoming season with five pitchers, including reliever Aaron Crow and starter Luis Mendoza. The club also came to terms with Louis Coleman, Guillermo Moscoso and left- hander Francisley Bueno.
The Kansas City Chiefs secured three of their biggest free agents on Monday, re-signing wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and punter Dustin Colquitt and placing the franchise tag on offensive tackle Branden Albert.

Funeral services for Mr. Jay Osborne of Licking, age 76 will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Licking. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Interment will be in the Licking Cemetery.
Funeral services for Margaret Loraine Jensen of Salem, age 94, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A celebration of life for Jeannie Freeman of Cherokee Village, Arkansas and formerly of Salem, age 72, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time.
