Paul Kariya continued his climb toward the 400- goal plateau with a pair of scores as St. Louis blew out Dallas, 6-1, for its season-high fifth consecutive victory. Kariya, who also had an assist, has 398 career goals. Alexander Steen, Patrik Berglund, Brad Boyes and T.J. Oshie also lit the lamp for the Blues. Chris Mason stopped 29 shots for his fifth straight victory. The Blues will play the Colorado Avalanche Saturday and you can hear the game on KSMO at 8:00.
Ike Davis hit a grand slam in the eighth inning, when the Mets scored six times on the way to a 17-11 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Grapefruit League play. Charlie Zink took the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) over 1 2/3 frames in the middle innings, while Francisco Samuel gave up all six runs in the eighth. Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI for St. Louis, which was playing in its Grapefruit League opener. These two teams play against each other again today. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Matthew Brown each clubbed a three-run homer to help Texas rout Kansas City, 13-3, in Cactus League play. Kyle Davies started for the Royals and yielded four runs on five hits in two innings. These two teams play against each other again today.
The Missouri Basketball Tigers wrap up their regular season Saturday against the Kansas Jayhawks at the Mizzou Arena. Game time is set for 1:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO.
The Kansas City Chiefs have signed linebacker Mike Vrabel to a contract extension. Vrabel recorded 65 tackles and two sacks in 14 games for Kansas City last year, his first with the Chiefs after coming over in a trade along with quarterback Matt Cassel from New England.
The Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms on one-year contracts with first baseman Billy Butler and infielder Alberto Callaspo.
The St. Louis Cardinals have signed pitchers Mitchell Boggs, Jaime Garcia, Blake Hawksworth, Ben Jukich, Josh Kinney, Kyle McClellan, Jason Motte, Tyler Norrick, Adam Ottavino, Francisco Samuel and P.J. Walters, catchers Bryan Anderson and Matt Pagnozzi, infielders David Freese, Tyler Greene, Mark Hamilton and Brendan Ryan and outfielders Allen Craig, Jon Jay, Daryl Jones, Joe Mather, Colby Rasmus, Shane Robinson and Nick Stavinoha to one-year contracts.
The Salem High School Winter Sports Banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 9th at 6:30 at the Salem High School Cafeteria for the Boys and Girls varsity and JV basketball teams, the cheerleaders and the parents of those who participated.
