The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Red Cummings was in attendance and asked if the Road Rally provided any economic gain to the community versus any damage to the road. Commissioner Purcell said that the county receives sales tax revenues from the teams and their families as well as the people who come to watch. He said that last year, an economic impact study was done on the 2009 race that showed that the money spent by these people turned over about five times in the local area. Purcell also told Cummings that those roads were going to have to be graded anyway and that those drivers did not do any extensive damage to the roads. Cummings also wanted to know that if a person was having their affairs managed by the public administrator after being deemed incapacitated by the court, could they still vote? County Clerk Angie Curley said that they cannot vote and that is the law by state statute. In the road report, Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that patching would be done and materials would be hauled to Dent County Roads 5360, 5380, 5520, 5530, 5580, 5600 and 5690. He said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6460 and 6570. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was going to be done and materials were going to be added to Dent County Roads 2200, 3230, 3240, 3300 and 4380. He also said that Crown Equipment would be in town to repair truck #116 as a cylinder blew out. Purcell also reported that he attended the Ozark National Scenic Riverways Management Plan Workshop in Rolla last week and the hot issues were motorized boats, horse trails and crossings, and vehicles on the gravel bars. The National Park Service will take all the comments from the worksheets from those in attendance and provide a summary of the workshop after compiling the information. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he would be attending a Resource Conservation Development meeting today in Houston. County Clerk Angie Curley is reminding everyone that the last day to register to vote for the April election is March 10^th, and that absentee voting is currently underway at her office. You also have until March 31^st to get an absentee ballot mailed to you to vote. For more information, call 729-4144. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, shoplifting and a felony probation and parole warrant. On Thursday, February 25^th at 2:30 p.m. an officer was detailed to the truck parking lot on Babb Lane in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered 2 unsecured vehicles and removed an in dash radio and CD’s valued at $300 and from the second vehicle a Tom-Tom GPS valued at $120.00 was taken. On Friday, February 26^th at 5:40 p.m. an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifting report that led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem woman for stealing $14.00 of merchandise. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, February 28^th at 7:00 a.m. an officer was detailed to the 300 block of East Center Street in reference to a theft. The report revealed a small portable safe was taken from a residence. At 6:30 that evening, a 39-year old Holt Summit man was contacted in the 1000 block of East Mondy Street in reference to a felony Probation and Parole warrant for his arrest. He was incarcerated on the warrant. Then at 7:30 p.m. that same evening, an officer was detailed to the 800 block of East First Street in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown removed a white cast iron bathtub with claw feet from the residence. The tub was valued at $250.00. An accident occurred on Thursday, February 25^th at 2:24 in the afternoon on Highway 32 in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2002 Buick Century driven by Barbara Killion of Licking was traveling east on Highway 32 in the inner lane when she fell asleep. Killion started to veer left crossing the center turn lane, both west bound lanes, and ran off the left side of the roadway making contact with the North Street curb in front of the car wash. Killion continued east bound on the sidewalk across 58 feet of the car wash east driveway making a second impact with the North Street curb. Killion then continued 44 feet into the grassy area, and crossed Orchard Street making a third impact with the North Street curb and sidewalk. Killion continued 21 feet east before coming to a final resting position. MODOT property sustained extensive damage, 4.5 feet of street curb was damaged, and there was minor damage to the grassy area. The Buick Century sustained extensive damage, but no injuries were reported.
