The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Lou Trombley came in to discuss with the commission about adopting a road that he has made to their specifics in a new upscale subdivision that he is developing off of Dent County Road 6150. He has built a house and received a temporary address on a private lane for the home from the Salem TCRC, but wanted the commission to make the private lane a county road so that there would not be an address change later after more homes are built. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that even though he understood what Mr. Trombley wanted to do, he does not want to set a precedent on adopting a road with only one home on it. That has been a policy of the county for years. He said that once two homes have been built, he would be glad to check the road to make sure that it meets the county specs and then adopt the road. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5330, 5360, 5380, 6010, 6585 and 6590. He stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6470. District 2 Commissioner Larson said that he responded to a call early Wednesday morning about 2:37 concerning downed trees across roads and storm damage south of Lecoma. He said that the crews were out there at 3:00 to assess the damage and workers arrived at the scene around 4:00 to remove the trees across the road and also move other debris from the roads. He reported that workers would be in the area again to help clean up debris from the storm. He did state that workers would be grading in the Howes Mill area on Dent County Road 5260 and adding materials to Dent County Road 2160. Presiding Commission Darrell Skiles reported that he received a letter from Attorney General Chris Koster in regards to holding a public town hall presentation on Missouri’s portion of a national settlement on foreclosure abuses. Of the $155 million dollars in benefits, $86 million will go to Missouri homeowners who are behind on their mortgage payments; another $38 million will go to homeowners who are making payments every month, but now owe more principal on their home than they are worth; and more than $31 million will be targeted to Missouri homeowners who lost their homes due to foreclosure between January 1^st, 2008 and December 21^st, 2011 because of bad servicing practices. The town hall meeting to discuss this will be held at the Salem TCRC on March 26^th at noon. A hotline has been set up for consumers who have questions about the settlements at 1-855-870-7676. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reminds everyone that absentee voting is currently going on for the April election at the courthouse, and you must be registered to vote by March 7^th to vote in that election. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

Dent County University of Missouri Extension will be offering a Private Pesticide Applicator Training Program on Tuesday, March 6^th at 6:30 pm at the Extension Office Conference Room located on the second floor of the Judicial Building in Salem. Will McClain, University of Missouri Extension Agronomy Specialist will be instructing this course for those who wish to purchase and apply restricted-use pesticides.  By participating in this training session, individuals will meet the Missouri Department of Agriculture requirements to obtain a license to purchase and apply restricted-use pesticides for private use. Those individuals who need to renew an expiring restricted-use pesticide license are eligible to attend this session to have those licenses renewed. This course is only for those people who produce agriculture commodities (farmers) and who desire to apply these pesticides for private use.  Those individuals who are interested in commercial, dealer or other pesticide licenses should call 573-751-5504. There is no charge for this course, however, participants are now required to purchase the new “Private Pesticide Applicator Reference Manual” to be eligible to renew or apply for a license. Cost of the manual is $12. The course will take approximately 2 hours to complete. Thursday was the opening day of trout season at three state parks in Missouri including Montauk State Park in Dent County. There were 1,678 adult trout tags sold and 149 children tags sold for a total of 1,827 total tags. Last year, there were 1,812 total tags sold on opening day. The largest lunker was a rainbow trout caught by John Devoto of Cherryville and it came in at nine pounds even. The next largest trout caught was a 6-pound, 9-ounce rainbow by Glen Shockley of Cuba followed by two 6-pound, 8-ounce lunkers caught by Brian Black and Lawson Toman of Salem. The catch and keep trout season will continue through October 31^st.
