Michael Dixon had a game-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting to lead five Missouri players in double figures, as the seventh-ranked Tigers pulled away to beat Iowa State, 78-72, on Wednesday. Ricardo Ratliffe scored 16 points for Missouri (26-4, 13-4 Big 12), which snapped a two-game losing streak and clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament. Marcus Denmon finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Kim English contributed totals of 13 and eight in the win. Phil Pressey added 11 points, four assists, and three steals. Pressey broke Missouri's single-season record for assists with his first one on Wednesday. He entered the game tied with Anthony Peeler (179 in 1989-90). Missouri will play at Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 in their regular season finale.
Kevin Shattenkirk registered a power-play goal and two assists, as the St. Louis Blues remained hot on the road with a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Andy McDonald scored two goals for the Blues, who have won each of their first four stops on a six-game trek. Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves to match St. Louis battery mate Brian Elliott with 20 wins. It marks the first time in Blues history that two goalies have posted at least 20 wins in a season. The Blues will play the Vancouver Canucks tonight at 9:00 and you’ll be able to hear it on KSMO.
The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to terms with World Series MVP David Freese and 23 other players on one-year contracts for the 2012 season on Wednesday. Freese hit .297 with 10 homers and 55 runs batted in 97 regular-season games last season. He had a monster postseason, hitting .397 with five home runs and 21 RBI in 18 contests.
