The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that the temporary bridge at the intersection of Dent County Roads 5610 and 5680 has been washed out from rains last Thursday in Bunker. He said that workers have firmed up the sides, but the bridge is closed on Dent County Road 5680. Dent County Road 5610 is still accessible from Dent County Road 5680. He said that he would like to repair the washout with Title 3 monies that right now total over $166,000. He said that workers would be cutting brush on Dent County Road 5610, and other would be checking for downed trees and washouts from the storm Sunday night. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 4270 and that a problem with a bridge on Dent County Road 4030 will be checked out. He said that workers will continue to haul rock to soft spots as it is too wet to grade, and that workers will also be checking for any washouts. Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Board meeting Tuesday. At the last meeting, Sheriff Rick Stallings came in with Joyce McCrerey, Joe Weber and Artie Lucas from GS&M to discuss the Dent County Justice Center Feasibility Study. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday at 9;00 in the morning and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education held their monthly meeting Thursday evening at the district administrative offices boardroom. After approval of the agenda, consent agenda and communications, Superintendent Cindy Rumpf, reported that Mrs. Bundy and Mrs. Smith completed the annual free and reduced lunch count taken in January and the total count for the year is 717 students compared to 809 for last year. The January membership count was taken the last Wednesday in January and totaled 1,338 students, which is down from the September count of 1,386. Rumpf then presented a Board Recognition Proclamation signed by Governor Jay Nixon thanking them for their services. The Board then approved calendar revisions for the 2010/2011 school year. There has been a total of 13 days missed due the weather. With no more days missed, the last day of school will now be May 26^th. Graduation will remain on May 20^th. The Board then approved budget updates and revisions, and approved several Board of Education policies. The Board then approved the recommendation of Tarynn Huitt as the Darrell “Jack” Holley MUSIC scholarship recipient. The Board then reluctantly accepted the retirement of Don Smith effective May 31^st. The Board then went into Closed Session to discuss personnel.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, a mental commitment order, an accident, a fatality involving a firearm and a burglary. On Sunday, February 20^th at 8:00 in the morning, an officer transported a 41-year old Salem male to the Harry S. Truman Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, in lieu of a mental commitment order. Then at 9:20 that same morning, an officer was dispatched to the Mobil Service Station in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown driving a red Ford Focus had pumped $21.50 in fuel and then left without paying. On Tuesday, February 22^nd at 6:00 in the evening, an officer was detailed to an accident at the intersection of Highways 32-72 and 19. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated, for careless andimprudent driving and for driving while having his licensed revoked. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Wednesday, February 23^rd at 1:04 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of North Young in reference to a fatality involving a firearm. The investigation of the report indicated that 41-year old Ronald Lee Mayes of Salem was deceased as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot.  At 5:18 that same afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of South Macarthur reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a residence and took a .22 caliber revolver that was valued at $150.
