In a special closed session held Friday, February 26th at the courthouse, Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell and District Two Commissioner Gary Larson all voted to pay the change of venue bill for the Nash Trial to Phelps County. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Monday evening, February 22nd at 7:10, an officer was detailed to the Salem Treatment Center in reference to an assault that revealed a 17-year old male of Springfield, had assaulted a 47-year old Salem male.  He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Tuesday, February 23rd at 3:30 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to a Classic Joy Ride Storage unit in reference to a break in. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown had forced open a storage unit and took copper wire and lead valued at $300.00. At 7:00 that evening, an officer transported a 48-year old Licking female to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Wednesday, February 24th at 2:52 in the afternoon, an officer transported a 23-year old Salem male to the Phelps County Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. At 5:24 that evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a Salem female rented an X-Box Arcade console valued $760.00 from Best Rent to Own and failed to return it. Later that same evening at 6:25, an officer was detailed to the Country Mart parking lot in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a roll-around tool chest bottom valued at $500.00 from a blue 1995 Chevrolet Suburban. On Thursday morning, February 25th at 7:58, an officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of South Louise in reference to property damage. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown had broken a window at a residence. The value of the damage is approximately $150.00.  Anyone with any information regarding the theft or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold their meeting tonight beginning at 7:00 pm. In bids, Terris Cates of Integrity Engineering who addressed the Board at the January 19^th Board meeting, requested the City apply for a CDBG Grant to address a storm water issue occurring between Third Street and “J” Highway in the Housing Development. The Board voted to proceed with a grant application and advertise for engineering services. Mr. Huffman will present the qualifications from engineering firms that were received. In unfinished business, the City had requested bids from collection agencies for the collection of past due utility accounts. Mayor Gary Brown had requested at the last meeting that this item be postponed until phone calls could be made for clarification of the bids. Mayor Brown will present the bids and make his recommendation. Alderman Jim McDaniels, Jim Jackson, Kenneth Nash and Brad Nash will discuss miscellaneous items involving the City of Salem and Mayor Brown will give his comments on various issues concerning the City of Salem. During the introduction of bills, Bill #3191, an ordinance amending ordinances 3168 and 3176, adopting the annual budget for the City of Salem, was tabled at the last meeting due to the absence of Alderman Jim McDaniels. The bill will be presented in hopes of having a full Board for the vote. State statues require this ordinance when changes are made to the budget that affects the total revenues or total expenditures from the original budget. This ordinance adjusts items the Board voted on at a previous meeting. Bill #3192 will be presented and is an ordinance allowing the 2010 Show Me Green sales tax holiday to apply to the local sales taxes of the City of Salem April 19^th to April 25^th. Last year the Board voted for the Show Me Green Sales Tax Holiday, and the Board needs to decide if they want to do this again this year so the ordinance could be into the State by March 3^rd. After approval of bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel, the Board will then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.
