The Dent County Assessor’s office is reminding everyone that your personal property assessment lists for 2007 must be turned in by 4:30 TODAY to avoid paying a penalty. Penalties are assessed in 10-dollar increments for every $1,000 dollars assessed on your property taxes. If you did not receive a personal property assessment list or have questions, you will need to stop by the Dent County Assessor’s Office in the Dent County Courthouse or call 729-6010.

The Cosmopolitan Club’s Annual Miss Salem Pageant will be held on Saturday, March 10th beginning at 7:30 pm at the Salem City Hall Auditorium. Contestants for the 2007 Miss Salem Pageant include Samantha Apperson, Anna Barnes, Jessica Braman, Audra Carty, Lindsey Geary, Megan Greenshields, Janeen Hankinson, Ashley Harris, Jenna Homeyer, Katie Hunt, Mina Ibrahim, Angela Jarvis, Aimee Larue, Megan Smith, Jessica Stallings, Stephanie Westerman, Lyndi Wisdom and Amanda Wood. There is an admission charge for the event.     

The United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service is informing the public that they have signed a Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact for the East Karkaghne Analysis Area Project authorizing the implementation of Alternative 2. The decision guides management on 12,772 acres of National Forest System lands in Reynolds County.  This action is for the purposes of improving forest health by salvaging dead and dying black and scarlet oaks. This decision is subject to an appeal. Those wishing to appeal must do so within 45 days. Representative Jason Smith will host a memorial highway naming ceremony in honor of Dent County Sheriff’s Deputy Joann Barnes on Friday, March 16th, at 11 a.m. at The Commons in Salem. A portion of Route H, from the intersection of Highway 72 to the intersection of Route DD, will be named for Deputy Barnes during the ceremony, which will serve as a tribute to her sacrifice while in the line of duty. Deputy Barnes joined the Dent County Sheriff’s Department in 1993 and was promoted to detective in 1999. She served in this capacity until she was killed in the line of duty on December 10, 2002.  Legislation sponsored by Representative Smith made it possible to honor Deputy Barnes.  For additional information regarding the ceremony, contact the Missouri Department of Transportation South Central District at 1-888-ASK MoDOT (275-6636).

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers gave the Lady Lancers of Lutheran South all they could handle for 29 minutes and 48 seconds as the score was tied at 32-32, but three turnovers and numerous free throws later, the Lady Lancers outscored Salem 13-4 in the final 2 minutes and 12 seconds to end the Lady Tigers season by the final score of 45-36. Salem was led in scoring by Allison Jones and Natalie Howard with 10 points each, and Kirsten Stephens added nine more. Salem finished with a 22-6 record for the year. Congratulations Lady Tigers on a fine season!!

The Salem Athletic Banquet for Winter Sports will be held Tuesday night at the Senior High Cafeteria starting at 6:30. The boys and girls basketball teams will be honored as will the basketball cheerleaders.

The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight as they will take on the New York Islanders starting at 6:30. The Blues have won five of their last six games. You can hear the game on KSMO radio.

Matt Lawrence scored 17 points to lead the Missouri Tigers to a 91-82 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes in a Big 12 Conference matchup from Mizzou Arena. Marcus Watkins, Missouri's lone senior, made his first start of the season and netted 15 points for the Tigers (18-10, 7-8 Big 12), who have won four of their last five outings. Keon Lawrence contributed 13 points and dished out six assists, while Stefhon Hannah chipped in 12 points to go with seven assists. Missouri will face Texas A & M to wrap up their regular season Saturday afternoon starting at 2:30 on KSMO Radio.

Adam Wainwright threw three no-hit innings and Rick Ankiel went 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the Florida Marlins 6-3 in spring training action. Wainwright is moving from the closer role he nearly perfected last season to a starter this year. The right-hander was nearly perfect in his first outing of the spring, walking one and striking out one. Albert Pujols started for the Cardinals and went 0-for-3.

Funeral services for Venita Imogene Voight of Rolla, age 77, will be held today at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County Animal Rescue League in Rolla.

Funeral services for Pearl Wave Hogan of Salem, age 83, will be held today at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery at Dillard, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Hogan family.

Funeral services for Michael Eugene Stewart of Salem, age 51, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Empire Cemetery in Salem. Memorials are suggested to the Michael Steward Family.

Funeral services for Raymond S. Davis of St. James, age 86 will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the High Gate Baptist Cemetery in High Gate. Memorials are suggested to the High Gate Baptist Church or Cemetery.

Funeral services for Joe Emmett Worley, Sr. of Steelville, age 80, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 Friday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Graveside services for Faye Richards Barnicle of Springfield, age 86, will be held Saturday at 1:30 in the Barnicle Chapel Cemetery in Steelville. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

A memorial service Darrow Finch Dawson of Rolla, age 76, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Russell House or the Salvation Army.

Funeral services for John Michael Frieders of Salem, formerly of Aurora, Illinois, age 50, are incomplete at this time but are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
