The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that county road crews would be repairing and replacing county road signs. He said that workers would be repairing the radiator on county truck #117 and brown rock would be hauled in from the creek. Purcell did say that two men would be working on the service trailer. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 4030 and patch grading would be done on county roads with specified areas of concern in the district. Larson indicated that two men would be hauling rock after they put a battery in truck #118. Larson also reported that he and Commissioner Purcell approved the phone bid for unleaded fuel for $2.99 a gallon from MFA Oil on Tuesday. He went on to say that he and Commissioner Purcell went to Ste. Genevieve to look at new brush cutters. The purchase of a new brush cutter is in the budget. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles visited with Representative Jeff Pogue about HB 1726 that would provide for raises for the county sheriff of 15% for 2014, another 10% in 2015 and another 5% every year thereafter. The bill does not include where the money will come from to pay the salary as well as the increase in payroll taxes. If passed, it would be an increase cost to the county of about $2,800 in 2014, and over $10,000 in 2015. Skiles also said that Pogue reported the bill to reduce the legal speed on county roads from 60 MPH to 45 MPH is running into some opposition and doesn’t look like it is going anywhere this year. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said absentee voting for the April 8^th election is going on now through April 7th. People who are interested in running for an office in the August Primary need to register by March 25^th in her office, and the last day to register to vote for the April 8^th election will be March 12^th. The commissioners opened culvert and graders bids at 10:00. At the last meeting, Tom Van Hatten with Road Rally America visited with Commission and said that rally was a huge success. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.The Salem Police Department has released more of their reports. On Monday, February 17^th at 7:30 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the truck parking lot located on Babb Lane reference a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a toolbox and loading straps, valued $700, from a truck parked on the lot.  Later that morning at 8:58, an officer was dispatched to Quality Machine Works located on Carnett Industrial Drive in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took scrap metal and I-beams valued at $800. Later that evening at 5:00, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of South Jackson Street in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone entered a gold 2000 Chevrolet Impala and took a purse and contents valued at $12. On Tuesday, February 18^th at 2:51 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 31-year old Salem male in the 400 block of Hogan & Adams Land who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and released to the Dent County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday, February 19^th at 3:53 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 19-year old Nixa male near Fourth and Walker, who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody and was also found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was released with summonses to appear in court after posting bond on the warrant.
