The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. After approval of the agenda in pubic concerns, Bill Rowden came by to discuss with the Commission his concern for not having gotten the bid for the meals at the Dent County Jail. Rowden stated that he delivered a total of 8,500 meals last year. The Commission explained to Rowden that when they approved the bid for the meals, they went on the Sheriff Department’s recommendation and that he would need to talk to the Sheriff’s Department regarding their decision. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that there would be some patching done on chip and seal roads. Purcell also said that brush cutting would be done on Dent County Road 5380 and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5615, 6370, 6580 and 6590. Purcell requested that fuel bids be obtained for 1,000 gallons of unleaded gas and 7,000 gallons of diesel. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading and rock would be hauled to Dent County Roads 4330 and 4337 and the grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3330 and 4060. Larson said that brush cutting would be done on Dent County Road 4060 and weather-permitting, grading would also be done on county roads 2180, 2190, and 4050. He said rock would also be hauled to county roads 2180 and 2190. Larson said that he had contacted MoDOT in regards to putting an apron on the county road at the Indian Trails due to a soft spot. Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles reported that he attended the Central Regional Workforce Caucus in Columbia on Wednesday and that many other counties were reporting increases in the amount of customers (up about 200%) that were needing help with having lost their jobs. Most of those counties also reported a 7-20% decrease in sales tax revenue for January and February of this year. Skiles said that Dent County at the present time is holding it’s own. Skiles also wanted to remind everyone that the 100-Acre Wood Road Rally is this weekend and that opening day of trout season is Sunday, March 1^st at Montauk State Park. Skiles and Tom Van Hattan from the 100-Acre Wood Road Rally will be on KSMO Radio this morning at about 8:20. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that Wednesday, March 11^th is the last day to register to vote in the April election. Curley also reported to the commission a letter received from the Dent Count Sheriff’s Department for a safety issue in the jail involving lights that have been torn down by the prisoners and the bare wires hanging down. The Commission approved a bid of $3,280 for the repairs. The lights are old and parts are no longer available and the new lights would be encased in steel whereby they would not be able to be destroyed. Erica Miseraco addressed to the Commission her concerns with the Dent County Prosecutors’ office. She told the Commission that the charges from the accident she was involved in last June has not been filed. She stated that she has called the prosecutors office on virtually a daily basis with no action having been taken. The Commission explained that they couldn’t make the prosecutor’s office do their job. Dent County Coroner Gina White stopped by the meeting to review with the Commission a bill for January for expenses for using the Wilson Mortuary facilities. Jacqueline Johnson-Crouch from the Dent County Women’s Crisis Center stopped by to ask the Commission to consider an office in the judicial building across from the courtroom for their office, so that their clients could have privacy. Mayor Gary Brown and Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock stopped in to inform the Commission they were going to have City of Salem Attorney Nanci Wisdom update the contract for the collector’s office as it has not been updated since 2000. The updates consisted of the wording in the older contract and adding the ending dates to correspond with the term of the office. A concerned citizen stopped by the meeting to let the Commission know that someone had taken the road sign from Dent County Road 6160. The next Commissioner meeting will be held on Monday, March 2^nd at 9:00 am at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

The 100-Acre Wood Road Rally will be in Salem this weekend. From 9:00 am to 12:00 (noon) today, will be the registration at the Holiday Inn Express in Salem. Beginning at 3:30 this afternoon, the first car starts the Day One race and will finish the Day One race at 8:15 pm tonight at the Holiday Inn Express. Tomorrow morning, the Parc Expose’ and Welcome Ceremony will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 on 4^th Street in downtown Salem. The Spectator Spot in our area will be as the first car arrives at about 6:40 pm on Dent County Road 5380. To access the spectator area, take Highway 19 South about 4.5 miles to Route B. Turn left on Route B and go about 8.4 miles to Dent County Road 5380. Turn right on county road 5380 about 1.7 miles to the spectator area. Between 7:45 and 8:30 pm at the Dent County Court House, the 2009 100-Acre Wood Road Rally Finish Line Celebrations will conclude the race.

For the second straight game, the Salem Boys Basketball Tigers came out strong taking a double-digit lead in the first half, only this time they had to hold off the charging Dutchmen of Owensville in the last few seconds to pull off their second straight upset, 69-67, to move into the Championship game tonight against Jeff City Helias. Salem was led in scoring by C.J. Smith with 24 points and Grant Gordon with 16 points. Phillip Moser hit two 3-pointers late in the game that broke open a tie game and gave Salem the lead they would never relinquish. Smith’s steal with five seconds left sealed the win. Salem is now 13-13 on the year. The game tonight with Helias starts at 7:30 and you can hear it on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

T.J. Oshie and Patrik Berglund tallied in the third period to snap a tie and send St. Louis past Dallas, 3-1, at American Airlines Center. Jay McClement registered the other goal for the Blues, who have won three of four. Chris Mason was another key component of the victory, stopping 41-of-42 shots. The Blues are three points out of a playoff spot and will be in Phoenix Saturday night at 8:00 on KSMO.

The Missouri Tigers hit the road Sunday and travel to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Jayhawks starting at 12:30 with the pre-game show. Missouri enters the game with a 24-4 record and 11-2 in the Big 12. You can hear the game Sunday on KSMO radio.

Scott Moore smacked a three-run homer, leading the Baltimore Orioles in an 11-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Grapefruit League action. Yadier Molina had a two-run double for the Cardinals, while Kyle Lohse was touched for four runs on four hits in his two-inning start.

Ross Gload hit a triple and drove in three runs, as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Texas Rangers, 7-2, in Cactus League action. Coco Crisp and John Buck each drilled a solo home run for the Royals, while Kyle Davies started on the hill, throwing two scoreless innings.

Funeral services for Charles "Charlie" Raymond Jones of Cuba, formerly of Steelville, age 77, will be held Monday at 10:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Richard Charles Schulte of Rolla, age 88, will be held Monday morning at 10:00 at the St. Patrick Church in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 sunday night with a Rosary Service at 5:30 Sunday night. Interment will be in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Springfield on Tuesday at 1:00. Funeral services for Inez Alice Cox of Dyer, Indiana, formerly of Steelville, age 86, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Young of Licking, age 89, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the Fox Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Dodson officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Shafer Cemetery.

A Memorial Mass for Arthur (Art) Stephens, Jr. of Salem, age 62, will be held Wednesday at 6:30 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Etta mae Perkins of Rolla, age 80, will be held Thursday moring at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday night. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Dixon. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
