An accident happened in Dent County on Highway 32 at Boss Monday afternoon at 2:45. According to the highway patrol report, Rick L. Mathes of Salem was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus eastbound when he fell asleep while driving. The Taurus ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a road sign and then a fence. Mathis suffered moderate injuries and was taken by the Salem EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The Taurus sustained moderate damages and was removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing of Viburnum. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Wednesday, February 12th at 9:27 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of East Fourth Street in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone entered a white 2008 Kia and took items valued at $450. Later that evening at 9:34, an officer made contact with a 24-year old Salem male in the 600 block of East Center Street who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody and incarcerated, pending a court appearance. On Friday, February 14th at 10:02 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of South Jackson Street in reference to a missing juvenile. That investigation revealed that a 14-year old female juvenile was missing after staying the night with a friend. She was located at 12:47 that afternoon and released to the parent. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office for further review. On Saturday, February 15th at 8:58 in the evening, an officer was detailed to Mobil in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that the driver of a maroon vehicle pumped $10 in fuel and left without paying. On Sunday, February 16th at 12:21 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Hogan Lane in reference to a theft of a dog. That investigation revealed that two male subjects driving an older model maroon and silver Chevrolet truck with a dog kennel in the back took a white female Great Pyrenees dog from the yard of a residence. Later that afternoon at 4:45, an officer transported a 19-year old Nixa female to the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Monday, February 17th at 7:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the truck parking lot located on Babb Lane in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took fuel and items, valued at $3,000, from vehicles parked on the lot.  Please contact the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242 if you have any information regarding the thefts, which are still under investigation.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released a report. On Sunday, February 23rd deputies received a report of a stolen vehicle in the 2200 block of County Road 6190. Deputies discovered that a 43-year old Salem male was the reported victim of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stolen from the residence sometime between 10:00 pm Saturday, February 22nd and 11:00 am Sunday, February 23rd. The Missouri State Highway Patrol recovered the vehicle on Monday, February 24th in Texas County. The vehicle was found burnt on Spring Creek Road, Northwest of Licking. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 573-729-3241.

Troop I, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, recorded zero traffic fatalities during the month of January 2014. There were 190 accidents with 57 injuries and no fatalities for January 2014 compared to 137 accidents with 46 injuries and one fatality for January 2013.  This is one less than January 2013. Reporting for January was Crawford County with 40 accidents with 16 injuries, Dent County had 12 accidents with four injuries and Laclede County reported 26 accidents with six injuries. Also reporting for January was Maries County with seven accidents with four injuries, Phelps County had 65 accidents with nine injuries and Pulaski County reported 40 accidents with 18 injuries. Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, wants to remind parents and caretakers in our communities, that all children should be placed in a child safety seat, booster seat, or seatbelt, every time they ride in a car or truck. When placing a child safety seat or booster seat in your vehicle, be sure to read both the instructions that came with the seat and your vehicle owner’s manual.

Senior Cody Whitaker hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points as Salem edged the St. Clair Bulldogs Tuesday night by the final score of 42-38. Logan Pogue added ten points for Salem who finished the regular season with a 12-13 record. Salem will take on Eldon Monday night at 6:00 in the first round of District play at Bolivar High School. The price of admission is $4.00 per person.

The Salem Lady Tigers will take on Hillcrest in the first round of District play Saturday afternoon at 3:00 at Bolivar High School. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The cost of admission to the game will be $4.00 per person.

Charles Mann scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Georgia Bulldogs captured a 71-56 win over the Missouri Tigers in an SEC showdown at Stegeman Coliseum. The Tigers (19-9, 7-8), losers of back-to-back decisions, were led by Jordan Clarkson and Jabari Brown with 17 points apiece, while Johnathan Williams accounted for 10 points and Ryan Rosburg a game-high 12 rebounds in the setback. Missouri will host Mississippi State on Saturday.

The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight when the travel to Vancouver to face the Canucks. The Blues are 39-12-6 on the year and are tied for first in the Central Division. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 9:30.

Funeral services for Billy Cunningham of Salem, age 55, will be held today at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to the Cunningham family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Bobby Harrison of Salem, age 71, will be held Friday at 11:00 Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery in Salem.

Funeral services for Alma Lucille Jordan of Steelville, age 97, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gibbs Care Center.

Funeral services for Kenneth “Kenny” Dewayne Wilkinson of Davisville, age 75, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Center Ridge Pentecostal Church in Davisville. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville.

Funeral services for Barbara Mounce Folta of Salem, age 50, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mounce-Folta family for funeral expenses.
