An accident happened at 7:35 Wednesday morning in Dent County on Route FF about ten miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire driven by 21-year old Jacob Bethel of Salem was traveling eastbound on Route FF. The Pontiac ran off the left side of the road, then returned to the roadway, overturned and came to rest on it’s top. Bethel suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Salem ambulance. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Pontiac was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving stealing and a burglary. On Tuesday, February 17th at 3:20 in the afternoon, a rural property owner came into the station and wanted to report that his neighbor had cut some timber off of his property. In one area he cut the fence and had a skidder on the property. The victim has had previous problems with the neighbor whose cattle have also been on the property in the past and caused property damage. Sergeant Jackson followed the complainant to his property and photographed where at least six trees have been cut along the fence line. The trees were clearly on the victim's side of the fence. There was also a section of the fence, about 15-feet long, that had been taken down and there were skidder tracks coming through the area. Property lines were determined on a plat map and the property owner was to bring in an estimated cost of damages and loss. On Wednesday, February 18th at 6:15 in the evening, Deputy Piatt was dispatched to a residence located on County Road 2300 in reference to a burglary. The person or persons gained entry through the front door and there was a fresh partial footprint low on the door where the suspect had kicked the door open. It appeared the person or persons were wearing some type of tennis shoes by the tread pattern. The door was still in the locked position and the dead bolt was also locked. The doorjamb on the inside had been busted and was lying on the living room floor. The victim stated he believed the person responsible was a male subject that he had allowed to live with him until the night before. He reported that his cell phone (described as a black colored Razor) and a black case containing CDs were the only things of his taken in the burglary and were valued at $650. This report is still under investigation.

The siren will sound at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 1st, and that signals the official beginning of trout season in Missouri state parks.    Fishermen are dusting off their fishing gear and officials in the three state parks are preparing the parks for their arrival. Local communities are gearing up for the influx of fishermen who are anticipated to arrive for the season, which runs through October 31st. With opening day falling on a Sunday this year, Missouri Department of Natural Resources officials expect good crowds for opening day. It is anticipated that approximately 8,400 trout tags will be sold at the three state parks and additional family members accompany most people who buy a tag. Trout tags can be purchased at the state park concession stores. Although trout fishing will be the main activity at the three parks on opening day, the parks also offer other opportunities including hiking and learning about the parks through exhibits in the interpretive and nature centers. All three parks feature campgrounds as well as dining and lodging facilities. Visitors for opening day can expect to see improvements at Montauk State Park. There have been repairs and renovations made on several rental cabins, motel rooms and shower houses. Gravel and sand were removed from select locations in the Current River and the Bluff Spring Branch to improve the depth of the fishing holes. Trout season in Missouri is a cooperative effort of the Department of Natural Resources, which manages state parks, and the Department of Conservation, which operates the hatcheries and stocks the streams with trout.
