The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving property damage. On Tuesday, February 17^th at 2:45 in the afternoon, a male subject walked into the Sheriff's Office to report property damage and a trespassing incident. He stated that on the previous evening three different vehicles caused severe damage to his field by putting deep ruts into the soil and that one vehicle was stuck up to the axles. The property owner took photographs of the damage and provided a diagram of his property. One vehicle was still on his property and the property owner stated that he was hoping to make contact with the vehicle owner. At 4:17 that same afternoon, Dent County Deputy Letchworth was dispatched to a residence on Dent County Road 2050 in reference to property damage. Upon arrival the property owner showed the deputy his telephone box on the outside of his residence and stated that when he got home he noticed the box was open and a wire had been cut as well that the bottom strand of his fence was cut behind his residence. The telephone was still in working order. While on scene Deputy Letchworth learned that another neighbor's telephone box had also been opened and tampered with. Then that evening at 10:52, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a damaged mailbox. Sergeant Pabin went out and patrolled the area, but no other vehicles were seen. 

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Wednesday, February 18^th at 11:28 pm, three firefighters were paged out to Route P to assist the Salem Memorial District Hospital with one female patient. On Thursday, February 19^th at 4:27 in the afternoon, a total of seven firefighters with the fire district assisted the Salem Memorial District Hospital on Highway 32 with a female patient. The Dent County Fire Protection District responded to two calls on Saturday, February 21^st. The first call came at 2:55 pm and was a grass fire on Dent County Road 613. Upon arrival there was about an acre on fire. The nine firefighters that responded had the scene under control and returned to the station at 3:48 pm. The second call came in at 5:59 pm and was due to a flue fire on Dent County Road 5035. Upon arrival there was light smoke coming from the chimney. The nine firefighters had the scene under control and returned to the station at 9:33 pm. On Monday, February 23^rd at 2:20 in the afternoon, firefighters assisted the Salem Memorial District Hospital with a female patient on Truman Street. Upon return to the station, four firefighters secured the Dent County Fire Protection District parking lot and created a landing zone as the patient was airlifted by Air Evac.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has issued a scam alert to small businesses, warning them not to respond to letters falsely claiming to have been sent by the SBA asking for bank account information in order to qualify them for federal tax rebates. The fraudulent letters were sent out with what appears to be an SBA letterhead to small businesses across the country, advising recipients that they may be eligible for a tax rebate under the Economic Stimulus Act, and that SBA is assessing their eligibility for such a rebate.  The letter asks the small business to provide the name of its bank and account number. These letters have not been sent by or authorized by the SBA, and all small businesses are strongly advised not to respond to them. The scheme is similar in many ways to e-mail scams often referred to as “phishing” that seek personal data and financial account information that enables another party to access and individual’s bank accounts or to engage in identity theft. The SBA is working with the SBA Office of Inspector General to investigate this matter. The Office of Inspector General asks that anyone who receives such a letter report it to the OIG Fraud Line at 1 (800) 767-0385.

U.S. Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond announced that a Special Listening Post Forum would be held today at the Dent County Courthouse at 2:00 pm. A representative of the Senator, Tom Schulte, will be available to constituents at the listening post. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers netted eleven 3-pointers in the contest and shot 17 of 18 from the free throw line en route to a 78-63 upset of Eldon Tuesday night at Owensville in District Play. Salem was seeded last in the tournament on the boys’ side. The Tigers were led by C.J. Smith who scored 21 points followed by Zach Pitchford with 19 points, Phillip Moser with 18 points and Grant Gordon with 10 points. Salem is now 12-13 on the year and they will face Owensville Thursday night at 7:30 in the District semi-final. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com at 7:30.

Jay McClement's short-handed tally proved to be the game-winning goal in the second period, as the St. Louis Blues downed the Phoenix Coyotes, 2-1, at Scottrade Center. David Perron also scored for the Blues, who have won four of their last six games and will close February with road games against the Stars and these Coyotes. Chris Mason made 24 saves in the win. The Blues are now 16-11-5 at home in 2008-09 season and are back at the .500 mark with a 26-26-8 record. You can hear the game tomorrow night on KSMO after Salem Tiger Basketball.

The Missouri Tigers will face Kansas State tonight in a key Big 12 matchup starting at 7:30. Missouri is 23-4 on the year and 10-2 in the Big 12. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio.

Kansas City Chiefs have released linebacker Donnie Edwards, quarterback Damon Huard and cornerback Patrick Surtain. They also waived tight end Michael Merritt.

Funeral services for Faye M. Bates of Edgar Springs, age 79, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Edgar Springs Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sonshine & Rainbow Day School at the Licking Church of Christ.

Memorial Mass for Tracy Lynn Pachmayr of Salem, age 39, will be held this afternoon at 1:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem. Memorials are suggested to the Pachmayr family.

Funeral services for Brian Allen Firestine of Salem, age 29, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Hutcheson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Firestine family

A Memorial Mass for Arthur (Art) Stephens, Jr. of Salem, age 62, will be held March 4^th at 6:30 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
