An accident occurred at 10:40 Saturday morning in Dent County that resulted in three men being airlifted. According to the highway patrol report, 25-year old Jason Gongware of Lake St. Louis was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy south on Highway 19 about ten miles south of Salem and turned into the path of a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado driven north by 35-year old Leslee Cook of Salem. Gongware suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital and was later flown by Air Evac to Mercy in St. Louis. An occupant in the Subaru, 24-year old Kurtis Kohlman of St. Peters, suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to Mercy in St. Louis. An occupant in the Chevrolet, 17-year old Joshua Bounds of Salem, suffered serious injuries and was flown my Mercy Life Line to the Children’s Hospital in S. Louis. No one involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

The Salem R-80 School District was awarded the Missouri Association of Rural Educators School District of the Year this past Friday night in at the MARE awards ceremony held at the Lake of the Ozarks. MARE is an organization that recognizes the needs and concerns unique to rural education. It provides a forum for the discussion and resolution of those needs and concerns, and presents a unified voice for rural education in Missouri. Also honored on Friday night was Northwood R-4’s Lois Stacey who was prsented the 2014 MARE Support Staff Award.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released their reports. On Wednesday, February 19th, deputies conducted a knock and talk investigation at the 21000 block of Highway 32. Consent to search the residence was granted and as a result of the search, deputies found methamphetamine and other illegal substances. Further investigation revealed components to a methamphetamine laboratory. Jerry Myers was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and distribution/manufacture of a controlled substance. Myers was taken to the Dent County Jail and held on $100,000 cash only bond. On Friday, February 21st, deputies conducted a knock and talk in the 800 block of East Third Street. A male subject, later identified as 29-year old Tazz Langston of Indiana, was located in the residence.  Langston was taken into custody after initially giving false identification to deputies in attempt to avoid two felony warrants for his arrest. The warrants included a parole violation warrant and a warrant for possession of a firearm. Indiana authorities considered Langston as a violent fugitive, but he was taken into custody without incident.  Langston is currently being held on no bond.

The Mountain View/Liberty Eagles shut down the Salem Tigers Friday night on their Senior Night by a score of 69-43 at Mountain View. Cody Whitaker and Logan Pogue each scored ten points to lead Salem as they fall to 11-13 on the year and finish with an overall 4-3 SCA record. The Tigers will host St. Clair tomorrow night in their Senior night.

The Salem Lady Tigers lost to Mountain View on Thursday night, 64-49. Savannah Hanning scored 16 points and Kari Hatridge added 15 points for the Lady Tigers, who fall to 9-14 overall and 4-3 in the SCA. Salem will play at St. Clair on today in the regular season finale.

Five Salem Lady Tigers were named to the Academic All-State Team. Athletes must be a junior or senior to qualify and meet an assortment of academic standards. Named to the team were seniors Ashlyn Cook, Taylor Frizzell, Cortney Putman, and Gabrielle Sanderson, as well as junior Savannah
Hanning. The collective upperclassmen GPA for the Lady Tigers is a 3.60 out of 4.0

Levi Randolph scored a career-high 33 points as the Alabama Crimson Tide beat the Missouri Tigers, 80-73, in an SEC clash at Coleman Coliseum. Earnest Ross logged 25 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers (19-8, 7-7), who ended three-game winning streak. Missouri will pay at Georgia on Tuesday.

Hoonigan Racing's Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino won the Rally in the 100-Acre Wood which is round two of the Rally America National Championship held this past weekend in Salem. The victory marks the seventh time the team has won the event out of their last eight attempts. Action sports icon, Travis Pastrana with co-driver Chrissie Beavis, hung on to take second place overall followed by FY Racing's Adam Yeoman and Jordan Schulze who took a well-earned third place finish.

Funeral services for James B. Miller of Salem, age 90, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery in Salem. Memorial may be made to the Salem Faith Assembly food bank.

Funeral services for Charlene Love Fannin of Rolla, age 94, will be Tuesday at 11:00 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 until time of service. Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Facility Improvement Fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Homer Earl Dillard, Jr. of Bridgeton, formerly of Salem, age 79, will be held Tuesday at noon at the New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Salem. Visitation will be held Monday from 6:00 to 9:00 at Collier’s Funeral Home in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Funeral services for James D. Nickles of Lenox, age 73, will be Tuesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 Tuesday until time of service at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.  Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the James D. Nickles family for Funeral Expenses.

Funeral services for William BJ Cunningham of Salem, age 55, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to the Cunningham family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Barbara Mounce Folta of Salem, age 50, will be held Saturday, March 1st at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mounce-Folta family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Kenneth “Kenny” Dewayne Wilkinson of Davisville, age 75, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Center Ridge Pentecostal Church in Davisville. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville.
