An accident occurred at 4:40 Wednesday afternoon in Reynolds County on Route B about six miles west of Ellington. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Chevrolet driven by 56-year old Susan Farris of Bunker, was changing lanes to pass another vehicle, skidded off the roadway, and overturned. Farris suffered moderate injuries and was flown to St. Johns in St. Louis by Air Evac. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet was totaled in the accident and was left at the scene per owners request.

The Missouri Department of Transportation recently celebrated years of service with several local employees in the South Central District of MoDOT. Rockey Martin, of Bunker, recently celebrated 25 years of service and is a Maintenance Supervisor; Gary Hays, of St James, recently celebrated 30 years of service and is a Senior Construction Inspector; Tom Rutledge, of Birch Tree, recently celebrated 20 years of service and is a Maintenance Crew Leader; Don Evans, of Houston, recently celebrated 20 years of service and is a Senior Maintenance Worker and Eddie Cole, also from Houston, recently celebrated 25 years of service and is a Senior Maintenance Worker.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular February monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will report on the free and reduced lunch count along with the January membership to the Board, and she will also have an official ballot sample for the upcoming election. In new business, there will be a Board Recognition Proclamation. The Board will then approve some 2010/2011-calendar revisions. There will be a budget update and possible revisions to the budget. The Board will address a BOE policy 2010B update, the Darrell “Jack” Holley MUSIC scholarship and discuss resignations. The Board may then vote to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel. The regular February monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from the previous meeting, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board with an auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar and legislative issues. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will update the Board on the nursing services and ancillary service reports, and the Comptroller Stephanie Wofford will present the summary of operations and statistics reports for January. In old business, there will be a 2010 strategic planning goals update, an update on the hospital lagoon and discussion about the TCRC. In new business there will be a report on the Finance Committee meeting and the Board will address hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors tonight is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from the previous meeting, the Board will pay bills and sign file copies. They will also address a truck payment completion and discuss a roof settlement. The Board will address the reimbursement report, go over any unfinished old business, and then discuss any new business that may come before the Board. Chief Brad Nash will update the Board on the inventory status. The Board will then set their next monthly meeting for March. The February monthly meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 42-year old Michael W. Barton of Rolla was indicted on federal child pornography charges. Barton, was indicted by a federal grand jury on one felony count each of possession and receipt of child pornography, as he appeared in federal court. If convicted, receipt of child pornography carries a penalty range of five to 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000; possession carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. In determining the actual sentences, a Judge is required to consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide recommended sentencing ranges. The Rolla Police Department and the South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Carrie Costantin is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers season came to an end at the hands of the Sullivan Lady Eagles in the District Semi-final Wednesday night in Union by the score of 47-21. The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 13-2 lead after one quarter and led 21-6 at halftime. The Lady Tigers finished the year with a 14-12 record after losing their first eight games of the year.

Laurence Bowers scored 20 points with nine rebounds and six steals, leading 20th-ranked Missouri in a 77-59 victory against Baylor. Kim English added 16 points for the Tigers (22-6, 8-5 Big 12), who have won four in a row and improved to 17-0 at home this season. Ricardo Ratliffe had 11 points and 13 boards in the victory. Marcus Denmon netted 13 for Missouri. Missouri has won 52 of its last 54 home games since the end of the 2007-08 season. Missouri will play Kansas State Saturday morning.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright has left spring training to have his right elbow examined. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch quoted Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak as saying Wainwright could have a "significant injury." If so, Tommy John surgery could be an option and that would end the right-hander's 2011 season before it begins. Wainwright has flown back to St. Louis for tests. He apparently felt pain while throwing on Monday.

The Cardinals will lose infielder Nick Punto for at least eight weeks with a sports hernia. Punto signed with the Cardinals in late January after spending the past seven seasons with Minnesota. The 33-year-old veteran appeared in only 88 games last year because of hamstring issues.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Vancouver tonight to face the Canucks starting at 9:00 on KSMO.

Funeral services for Pearl Ora Woods of Steelville, age 96, will be held today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Steelville.

Graveside services for Gertrude L. Caswell of Salem, age 84 will be held Friday at 10:00 at the Mt. Vernon Memorial Estates in Lemont, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Memorial services for Virginia Lois Conaway of Pevely, age 52, will be Saturday at 2:00 at Lookout Assembly of God Church in Davisville. Interment will be in the Skaggs Cemetery at Shoal Creek. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Barbara N. Phelps of Salem, age 76, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Second Baptist Church in Salem. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the church. Interment will be in the Nash family Cemetery in Dent County. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.
