An accident occurred at 4:40 Wednesday afternoon in Reynolds County on Route B about six miles west of Ellington. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Chevrolet driven by 56-year old Susan Farris of Bunker, was changing lanes to pass another vehicle, skidded off the roadway, and overturned. Farris suffered moderate injuries and was flown to St. Johns in St. Louis by Air Evac. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet was totaled in the accident and was left at the scene per owners request.

The Missouri Department of Transportation recently celebrated years of service with several local employees in the South Central District of MoDOT. Rockey Martin, of Bunker, recently celebrated 25 years of service and is a Maintenance Supervisor; Gary Hays, of St James, recently celebrated 30 years of service and is a Senior Construction Inspector; Tom Rutledge, of Birch Tree, recently celebrated 20 years of service and is a Maintenance Crew Leader; Don Evans, of Houston, recently celebrated 20 years of service and is a Senior Maintenance Worker and Eddie Cole, also from Houston, recently celebrated 25 years of service and is a Senior Maintenance Worker.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular February monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will report on the free and reduced lunch count along with the January membership to the Board, and she will also have an official ballot sample for the upcoming election. In new business, there will be a Board Recognition Proclamation. The Board will then approve some 2010/2011-calendar revisions. There will be a budget update and possible revisions to the budget. The Board will address a BOE policy 2010B update, the Darrell “Jack” Holley MUSIC scholarship and discuss resignations. The Board may then vote to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel. The regular February monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from the previous meeting, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board with an auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar and legislative issues. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will update the Board on the nursing services and ancillary service reports, and the Comptroller Stephanie Wofford will present the summary of operations and statistics reports for January. In old business, there will be a 2010 strategic planning goals update, an update on the hospital lagoon and discussion about the TCRC. In new business there will be a report on the Finance Committee meeting and the Board will address hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors tonight is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from the previous meeting, the Board will pay bills and sign file copies. They will also address a truck payment completion and discuss a roof settlement. The Board will address the reimbursement report, go over any unfinished old business, and then discuss any new business that may come before the Board. Chief Brad Nash will update the Board on the inventory status. The Board will then set their next monthly meeting for March. The February monthly meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 42-year old Michael W. Barton of Rolla was indicted on federal child pornography charges. Barton, was indicted by a federal grand jury on one felony count each of possession and receipt of child pornography, as he appeared in federal court. If convicted, receipt of child pornography carries a penalty range of five to 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000; possession carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. In determining the actual sentences, a Judge is required to consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide recommended sentencing ranges. The Rolla Police Department and the South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Carrie Costantin is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
