The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their regular meeting. In public concerns, Stan Podorski from KSMO Radio thanked the commissioners for their continued support of the airing of the Salem FFA Day on KSMO Radio that will be held this Friday. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading will be done on Dent County Roads 4080 and 5400, and brush will be cut on Dent County Road 5480. He said that repair work continues on Dump Truck #3, and that workers will be going to Springfield to pick up road oil to patch chip and seal roads today and Wednesday. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson said that workers are going to be replacing signs that have been damaged or stolen in the county. He said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2130, 3220 and 4240, and he and Supervisor Charlie Malone checked out a ditch problem on Dent County Road 3210 that Sandy Sanders brought to the attention of the commission. Larson said that the ditch would need to be rerouted. He said they also checked out a ditch on Dent County Road 2313. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a MoDOT meeting at the MRPC Thursday on the “Blueprint to Arrive Alive.” Skiles says that MoDOT is supporting a mandatory seat belt law for the state and wants to reduce fatal crash deaths down to 850 by the year 2012. He said that Bonnie Prigge from the MRPC said that MoDOT is looking at widening the shoulders on Highway 32 East. Skiles also said that he attended a Workforce Investment Caucus on Wednesday that updated the county commissioners on training for those who become unemployed. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that absentee voting would begin today for the April 7^th Municipal Election. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles then discussed the Judicial Building Annex and said that Gale Carlson, the epidemiologist from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, was in town last Wednesday to perform an air quality assessment of the building. Carlson found no problems or health issues with the building but did have some suggestions for the county. Skiles said that many of the recommendations Carlson had for the building have already been discussed by the commissioners to be done while the work continues on the building. The commissioners then decided to go review the Judicial Building to assess what offices will be moving to the annex. At the last meeting, Sheriff Rick Stallings came in to visit the commission about illegal dumping. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education in closed session last week also re-employed all of the building principal’s and the two assistants from the Junior High/Senior High School. They all were in their first-year of a two-year contract and each was given another year. Also, Assistant Superintendent Cindy Rumpf was granted a three-year contract.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts and domestic disputes. On Friday, February 20^th at 4:19 pm an officer was contacted at station in reference to the theft of checks from the 700 block of East 10^th Street. The victim reports the theft occurred in July of 2008 and totals $1,527. At  7:51 pm that evening, an officer received information of the theft of a sum of money from the 1400 block of Highway 19 South. The victim was contacted and reports, that morning at 9:00 am a male individual took without permission $6,700.00 from the residence. On Saturday, February 21^st at 4:09 am, an officer was detailed to the 500 block of East Acuff in reference to a domestic dispute. The report led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem man for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, February 22^nd at 9:38 am, an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Truman in reference to a domestic dispute. The report led to the arrest of a 39-year old Salem woman for domestic assault. She was incarcerated pending the issuance of a warrant. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform edge rut repair on Route 19 in Dent County, from the intersection of Route B to the intersection of Route 32 beginning today.  Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Edge rut repair work requires placing material at the edge of the roadway and is necessary to reduce shoulder drop off. While performing this function, crews and equipment are located directly on or near the roadway. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when moving through the work zone. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts. On Saturday, February 14th at 10:00 p.m. an officer was contacted in reference to a theft.  The report revealed that person of persons unknown took a Samsung cell phone valued $225.94 from a vehicle.  On Wednesday, February 18th at 4:55 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 200 block of south Warfel in reference to a theft.  The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a lawn chair valued $8.00 from the yard of a residence.  You are asked to please contact the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242 if you have any information pertaining to the aforementioned incidents.

The Salem Lady Tigers season came to an end at the hands of the Owensville Dutchgirls Monday night by the score of 53-46 in the first round of district play. Salem was led in scoring by Hannah Kettner with 19 points and Jennifer Herndon with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Salem finished the year with an 11-15 record.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will travel to Owensville to face Eldon tonight beginning at 7:30 in the first round of district play. Salem enters the game with an 11-13 record. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. If Salem wins, they will play Thursday night against Owensville.

The St. Louis Blues host the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at the Scottrade Center at 7:30. KSMO will join the game in progress after the Salem Tigers Basketball game.

The Blues have recalled Yan Statsny from Peoria for the game tonight.

Funeral services for Faye M. Bates of Edgar Springs, age 79, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Edgar Springs Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sonshine & Rainbow Day School at the Licking Church of Christ.

Memorial Mass for Tracy Lynn Pachmayr of Salem, age 39, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem. Memorials are suggested to the Pachmayr family.

Funeral services for Brian Allen Firestine of Salem, age 29, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Hutcheson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Firestine family.

A Memorial Mass for Arthur (Art) Stephens, Jr. of Salem, age 62, will be held March 4^th at 6:30 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
