An accident occurred at 2:52 Friday afternoon in Texas County on Highway 32 about eight miles east of Licking that took the life of a Salem woman. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Ford Mustang driven by 39-year old Tracy Pachmayr of Salem, crossed the center line and struck the rear duals of a 2002 International driven by 59 year-old Michael Lingle of Cuba. Pachmayr was pronounced dead at the scene by the Texas County Coroner Tom Whitaker at 3:31, and her body was transported to the Wilson Mortuary of Salem. Michael Lingle was the only one wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Mustang was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by A-1 Towing of Houston. The International sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Miles and Sons of St. James.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education held their meeting Thursday evening, which started with a 45-minute calendar hearing. After approving the agenda, Superintendent Steve Bryant noted that anytime a school starts 10 or more days before Labor Day, according to state statutes, a calendar hearing is required. Bryant pointed out to the Board that between 12 and 13 schools helped to develop the calendar based on their various needs and concerns. He also noted that every Monday, schools will dismiss 20 minutes early for Professional Learning Communities (PLC). PLC is a time set aside for all the staff in each of the buildings to come together with their thoughts, ideas and questions, as they work as a team to help each other, learn and find better ways to help their students achieve the highest levels of education possible for each student. State statutes require all schools to have 174 days in each calendar year, totaling 1,044 hours of class time. As long a there is a minimum of three hours attended in the day, that is considered a full day of school. In the Superintendents report on Academic Team Achievements, two young men, Anthony Short and Ryan Williams from RTI in Rolla, won the Missouri Automobile Dealer Association automotive competition. Each won a $1,000 scholarship, tools and an all-expense paid trip to New York in April to compete in the national competition. The Quiz Bowl Team came in 1st place in the SCA conference. At the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Academic Challenge, Salem had numerous winners in math and science. Also the Girls Varsity Volleyball team won the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement award for having a 3.87 grade point average and the Girls JV Volleyball team won the Distinguished Scholastic Achievement award for having a 3.15 grade point average from the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Bryant stated the there are 802 participants in the free and reduced lunch count program this year, which does include providing meals for the state school. In the CEE update, Bryant stated that education equality was the main topic and will be addressed more, later in the spring and Bryant noted that at the Dent County School Administrators meeting the calendar and curriculum were the top issues addressed. In new business, several staff members addressed the PD-day summary and all were excited about the helpful, informative and motivational tools that they received. There were several students that participated in the geometry performance event. These are 9th grade students that are taking 10th grade geometry and they were there with their parents, to tell about the homes that they built using the many facets of math.  After approval of the program evaluation on differentiated programs, Bryant informed the Board that there are several BOE policies to be reviewed and that he would send the information on each of the policies to members for them to review and address at the next meeting. The Board then approved the calendar for the 2009/2010 school year. The Board accepted the resignations of Jennifer Skonieczny a Special Development Disabilities teacher effective March 7th and the resignation of Judy Dunn a Kindergarten Paraprofessional effective at the end of the school year. In closed session the Board of Education employed Amanda Irwin for Senior High Spanish; Justin Crain for Senior High Communication Arts; and Jamie Chilton for Lower Elementary Paraprofessional.

An accident happened in Reynolds County on Highway 72 in Bunker Saturday morning at 1:00. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Buick driven by an unknown driver, went off the left side of the roadway and struck a concrete drive. An occupant in the car, 26-year old Toni Henegar of Bunker, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Advanced Healthcare of Ellington by an ambulance. The Buick was totaled and removed from the scene by Wisdom’s Towing. Henegar was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

The Ava Bears scored 24 points in the 4^th quarter coming back from a nine-point deficit to beat the Salem Boys Basketball Tigers Friday night by the score of 56-49. Salem only scored 18 points in the second half. They were led in scoring by Zach Pitchford with 13 points followed by C.J. Smith with 12 and Grant Gordon with 11. Salem ends the regular season with an 11-13 record and will face Eldon in the first round of District play tomorrow night at 7:30 at Owensville.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be in action tonight starting District play against the Dutchgirls of Owensville at 6:00 this evening. Salem is seeded 4^th in Districts while Owensville has the fifth seed. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio and ksmoradio.com. The winner tonight plays St. James Wednesday night at 6:00 at Owensville.

Shea Weber scored the game's lone goal with 2:24 remaining in overtime, as the Nashville Predators blanked the St. Louis Blues, 1-0, in the second of a home-and-home set between these Central Division clubs. Chris Mason, who spent parts of six seasons with Nashville, was impressive for the Blues, making 21 saves. The Blues will host Phoenix Tuesday night starting at 7:30. KSMO will join the game in progress after Salem basketball.

Leo Lyons scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and the 11th-ranked Missouri Tigers continued their strong play with a 66-53 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes. Marcus Denmon added 11 points for the Tigers (23-4, 10-2 Big 12), who have won six straight and 10-of-11 for their best conference start ever. Demarre Carroll had 10 points and eight rebounds, as Missouri out-rebounded Colorado, 35-21. Missouri hosts Kansas State Wednesday night starting at 7:30.

Graveside services for Arzetta McDonald of Salem, age 96, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral Mass for Dorothy Felden of Sedalia formerly of Salem, age 86, will be held today at 1:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. All Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Faye M. Bates of Edgar Springs, age 79, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Edgar Springs Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sonshine & Rainbow Dayschool at the Licking Church of Christ.

Memorial Mass for Tracy Lynn Pachmayr of Salem, age 39, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem. Memorials are suggested to the Pachmayr family.

A Memorial Mass for Arthur (Art) Stephens, Jr. of Salem, age 62, will be held March 4^th at 6:30 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
