It is the 14^th annual KSMO FFA Day and it will begin with a “What is FFA?” by Erin Hamby in the 7:00 hour to be followed with a number of interviews throughout the day starting at about 8:25. This event is sponsored by 25 different businesses and helps to raise funds for the FFA Chapter.

The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that roads have been thawing out and drying up allowing grading to begin. He said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 418, 508, and 622. District 1 crews are also hauling white rock for the Department of Natural Resources around the Montauk area to get roads ready for the opening day of Trout Season. Simpson said he met with Representatives from the National Park Service to discuss what resources they would be able to provide to the chip and seal project of Dent County Road 651, which leads to Cedar Grove. Simpson said the Park Service would be willing to provide equipment and man power to the project, so before any further action is taken, Commissioner Simpson will be getting numbers together for the total cost of the project. Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that District 2 crews are hauling gravel to Dent County Road 330 and to various roads in the Waterfork area and a crew is also cutting brush on Dent County Road 522. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he met with Mayor Gary Brown and Emergency Management Director Jack Emory to discuss the revision and updating of Dent Counties Emergency Management Plan. All three agreed to meet with representatives of Dent County Health and Safety Departments to discuss what needs to be done. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire call Tuesday morning at 9:00 on Dent County Road 411 at property owned by Suzy Atkinson of Salem. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke showing from the roof. The fire was extinguished on the side of the house. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and the Missouri State Fire Marshall was notified. No injuries were reported. A total of eleven firefighters responded to the call.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers defeated the Owensville Dutchgiirls, 46-43 to win the districts. Natalie Howard and Kirsten Stephens each tallied 15 points while Allison Jones scopred 12 points. Salem is now 22-5 on the year and they will face the Lutheran South Lady Crusaders Wednesday night at 7:45 at Jefferson College in Hillsboro. The Salem Boys Basketball season came to an end in a hard fought battle with the Owensville Dutchmen with a 60-55 loss. The game was tied with a minute to go before Owensville took a two-point lead with 58 seconds left. On an inbound play, Salem had to retreat in their defensive end and a pass by C.J. Smith deflected off the backboard out of bounds allowing Owensville to in-bound the ball and score on free throws to seal the win. Salem was led in scoring by Taylor Sirois with 19 points and C.J. Smith with 17 points. Sirois also pulled down 15 rebounds for the Tiger who end their season with a 16-10 record.

The Missouri Tigers will travel to Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers in an attempt to each the .500-mark in the Big 12. Game time is set for 12:45 with the pre-game show starting at 12:15 on KSMO Radio. Missouri enters the game with a 17-9 record and 6-7 in the Big 12.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Chicago Sunday afternoon to face the Blackhawks starting at 2:00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio. The Blues have won their last four straight games.

Memorial services for Judge Charles Leick of Davisville, age 93, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Valhalla Cemetery in St. Charles.

Graveside services for Rosel Lee Parker of Salem, age 85, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Mabel Martorana of St. James, age 85, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the Immaculate Conception Church in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Graveside services for Ronald Edward Smith of Crescent City, CA, formerly of Salem, age 70 will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Dry Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Services for George “Bill” Scofield of Houston, age 84, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 12:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Harold Stufflebean Jr. of Rolla, age 64, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Rolla. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Grace S. Ottinger of St. James, age 94, will be held Saturday at 3:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be from 2:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.
