Kirsten Stephens scored 18 first half points and finished with 24 to lead the Salem Lady Basketball Tigers past the Sullivan Eagles in the district semi-final Wednesday night at Owensville, 46-41, avenging last year’s loss in the district finals. Salem built a 19-point lead in the second half, then hung on to the victory by holding off the charging Lady Eagles. Salem netted only 2 of 12 free throws in the game. Allison Jones added 12 points and captured 11 rebounds help the Tigers reach the district finals against the Owensville Dutchgirls who upset St. James in double overtime, 37-35. That game will be held Friday night at 6:00 at the Owensville high School Gymnasium. The winner of that game will move to sectionals at Jefferson College in Hillsboro on Wednesday, February 28th. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will face the Owensville Dutchmen tonight in the district semi-final beginning at 6:00. Salem beat St. James Tuesday night to reach this game while Owensville, who is the #1 seed, had a bye. Salem has a 16-9 record on the year going into the game including a seven game winning streak.
