The Salem Police Department released their reports involving drugs and active warrants. On February 16th at 9:00 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Bowl Motel in reference to the smell of burnt marijuana emanating from a room. The report led to the arrest of a 39-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On February 19th at 9:53 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of East Center in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 45-year old Salem male on an active warrant from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department. He was unable to post bond and is awaiting extradition from St. Louis County. On February 20th at 3:28 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information pertaining to these incidents is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

An accident occurred Tuesday night at 5:00 in Reynolds County on Highway 72 about two miles east of Bunker. According to the highway patrol report, a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 16-year old Andrew Lewis of Salem was traveling west on highway 72, lost control, ran off the road, struck a tree, overturned then caught fire. Lewis suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Lewis was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Tahoe was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Hills Towing of Ellington.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will hold their regular meeting tonight beginning at 6:00 pm in the hospital library. At the meeting, Superintendent Dennis Pryor will give the summary of operations and statistics report for the month of January, along with the nursing services, ancillary services and auxiliary reports. Pryor will also address the hospital activity calendar, legislative updates and the ER an inpatient satisfaction results in his Administrator’s Report. Old business will include the physician office building report and a strategic planning update. In new business there will be a report on the finance committee meeting, purchases, a vision plan and the Judson-Young Memorial donation. The Board may then adjourn and go into executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel, contracts and pending litigation. The regular meeting of the Salem Memorial Hospital Board of Directors tonight is open to the public.

Kirsten Stephens scored 18 first half points and finished with 24 to lead the Salem Lady Basketball Tigers past the Sullivan Eagles in the district semi-final Wednesday night at Owensville, 46-41, avenging last year’s loss in the district finals. Salem built a 19-point lead in the second half, then hung on to the victory by holding off the charging Lady Eagles. Salem netted only 2 of 12 free throws in the game. Allison Jones added 12 points and captured 11 rebounds help the Tigers reach the district finals against the Owensville Dutchgirls who upset St. James in double overtime, 37-35. That game will be held Friday night at 6:00 at the Owensville high School Gymnasium. The winner of that game will move to sectionals at Jefferson College in Hillsboro on Wednesday, February 28th. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will face the Owensville Dutchmen tonight in the district semi-final beginning at 6:00. Salem beat St. James Tuesday night to reach this game while Owensville, who is the #1 seed, had a bye. Salem has a 16-9 record on the year going into the game including a seven game winning streak. The St. Louis Blues will be off until Sunday when they face the Chicago Blackhawks in an afternoon contest. The Blues have won four straight games and are now at the .500-mark on the year.

Funeral services for Shirley Mae Meschke of Rolla, age 79, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Interment will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Family Life Center. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Memorial services for Judge Charles Leick of Davisville, age 93, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Valhalla Cemetery in St. Charles.

Private graveside services for Archie William Kehr of Steelville, age 89, will be held Friday. Visitation will be today from 3:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Earney Cemetery in Steelville.

Graveside services for Rosel Lee Parker of Salem, age 85, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Mabel Martorana of St. James, age 85, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the Immaculate Conception Church in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. 

Graveside services for Ronald Edward Smith of Crescent City, CA, formerly of Salem, age 70 will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Dry Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Services for George “Bill” Scofield of Houston, age 84, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 12:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Harold Stufflebean Jr. of Rolla, age 64, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Rolla. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Friday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
