IThe City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers. After the approval of the agenda, the board will have the hearing of persons from Molly Malone of VerKamp & Malone CPA’s as she will be presenting the Audit Reports for the Budget Year 2010-2011.Thw board will then hear from City Attorney, William Camm Seay, who will report on the Public Hearing that was held to the Board of Alderman meeting regarding a “Dangerous Building” at 808 East Jack Street owned by Billy Major. In the Consent Agenda, past agendas will be offered for comments or approval; Bill Huffman will have the Director of Public Works & Engineering report to update the Board of Alderman on standings and future projects that the City has going. In the Reports of City Officials, Boards and Committees, the City Administrator Clayton Lucas will update the Board concerning City happenings, Aldermen Jerry Randell, Kenneth Nash, Haydn Powell, and Philip Giacomelli will give their reports and then Mayor Gary Brown will give his report. In New and Miscellaneous Business, The Board will give their approval on purchase orders for Capital Quarries who is requesting to sign a purchase order for rock for the amount of $4,192.64. The rock is being paid for out of the Capital Improvements Sales Tax Fund for sidewalks, sewer upgrades and water upgrades. A discussion of the Old Middle school will take place with a request that the Mayor and Board of Alderman open discussions on options for the property, such as selling, demolition, restoration, etc. There will be a request for changing dates of the March Board of Alderman Meetings from the first and third Mondays to the second and fourth Mondays due to conflict. A request will be made for the authorization to bid out the employees’ uniforms with Cintas which expires April 30, 2012, and a request will go out for the authorization to bid out the insurance services again for worker’s comp and liability insurance. The Board will then vote to go into closed session where they will discuss Litigation. The meeting will then be adjourned. The regular meeting of the Board of Alderman will be Tuesday, February 21st at 7:00 pm and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the January 17th meeting, Comptroller Stephanie Wofford will update the Board on the summary of operations and statistics report for January. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will update the Board on the Nursing Services and Ancillary Services reports. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will give the Board the updates on the Auxiliary report, the hospital activity calendar, legislative issues and a construction update. In old business, the Board will address the 2011 strategic planning goals update. In new business, there will be a report from the finance committee meeting; the Board will address hospital purchases and some Mail System Changes at the hospital. The monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital is open the public.

An accident occurred at 12:55 Monday afternoon in Phelps County on county road 2020 about two miles East of Highway 63. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Buell motorcycle driven by 35-year old Roger Gipson of Rolla was traveling westbound. Gipson lost control and overturned onto the roadway. Gipson suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Hospital by the Phelps County ambulance. The motorcycle sustained extensive damage and removed by the owner.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Tuesday, February 7th at 10:34 at night, an officer transported a 33-year old Boonville male to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Wednesday, February 8th at 7:50 that evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 23-year old St. Clair male for driving while intoxicated and forgery. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Later that night at 9:37, an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of West Hunt Street in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a Motorola cell phone valued at $300 from a residence. On Friday, February 10th at 9:48 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Salem High School in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 17-year old Salem male had assaulted an 18-year old Salem male. The 17-year old was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. Later that afternoon at 1:48, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to someone trespassing. That investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for trespassing. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Saturday, February 11th at 10:13 at night, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Bowling Center in reference to someone harassing customers. The investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Montgomery City male for loitering and vagrancy. He was issued summons to appear in court and released. On Monday, February 13th at 3:11 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. The investigation led to the arrest of a 45-year old Bunker female for stealing merchandise valued at $59.71. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. The Salem Lady Tigers lost to Union in the first round of the District Tournament, 54-41. Cortney Putman led the Lady Tigers with 13 points as Salem finishes the year with a 6-20 record.

The Salem Tigers Boy’s Basketball team is seeded 3rd in the Class 4, District 9 Tournament in Union and will be playing Owensville in the first round tonight at 7:30. The cost for each game at districts is $4.00. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO and ksmoradio.com.

The third ranked Missouri Tiger basketball team will host Kansas State tonight. Missouri is 25-2 on the year and are tied with Kansas for the lead in the Big 12. You’ll be able to hear the game, starting with the pre-game show, at 5:30 on KSMO.

The Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms with first baseman Eric Hosmer and third baseman Mike Moustakas on contracts for the 2012 season. Hosmer made his big league debut last May 6 and nearly won the AL Rookie of the Year award, finishing third in the balloting. He batted .293 with 19 homers and 79 runs batted in over 128 games. Another highly-regarded prospect, Moustakas, struggled after his recall on June 10. He hit .379 in his final 36 games and finished at .263 with five homers and 30 runs batted in over 89 games. Both were first round picks for the Royals.

Funeral services for Edward W. Savage of Rolla, age 69, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Military honor will be held at the funeral services. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services for Sharleen M. Berger of Jadwin, age 68, will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday night. Interment will be in the Empire cemetery in Gladden.

Funeral services for Carl Young of Salem, age 84, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Rock Springs Baptist Church near Licking. Visitation will be held Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking.

Melvin Thomas Lampley of Salem, age 72, passed away February 19th and was cremated and there will be no service. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
