The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for February 19^th involving a burglary attempt. On February 19^th at 10:29 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a report of an attempted burglary from a residence located on Dent County Road 312. The incident was reported to have occurred between February 2^nd and 16^th. Items reported taken were two 30-pound propane tanks, 80 feet of wire cable and a 12-volt battery. Property damage to a camper trailer door latch and rear compartment was also reported. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary attempt is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Dent County Fire Protection District held Extrication Training at 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 15 at the fire station. Also participating in the exercise were the Montauk, Jadwin and Bunker Fire Departments along with the Salem Memorial District Hospital and the 100-Acre Wood. There were a total of 56 emergency personnel present with 16 from the Dent County Fire Protection District. Fire Chief Brad Nash would like to thank Whitaker Auto Body and Towing for supplying the cars for the Extrication Class and Burger King for donating sandwiches to the firefighters that had been out for long periods of time without something to eat.

The Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire call Sunday afternoon at 3:19 located out Highway 32 West at property owned by Bernell Wisdom. Upon arrival firefighters found one acre on fire. The fire was extinguished. The cause of the fire is not known and damaged was a total of two acres. No injuries were reported. A total of seven firefighters responded to the call. Later the same afternoon at 5:30, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire call on Highway 19 North right across from the R-4 school at property owned by Dan & Kim Gregory. Upon arrival nothing was showing and after further investigation, it was determined that a lamp shorted out on a dresser in the bedroom. There was about four to five thousand dollars worth of damage. No injuries were reported. A total of eleven firefighters responded to the call. On Monday at 4:43, the responded to a structure fire on JJ Highway at Royal Oak. Upon arrival light smoke was showing and fire was extinguished. The cause of the fire is not known and with minor damage, the fire was determined to have started in the bagging room. No injuries were reported. A total of twelve firefighters responded to the call.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold their meeting tonight beginning at 7:00 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers. At the meeting, bids for new chairs for the Council Chambers, a pool filter for the city pool, a 4-wheel drive pickup for the Electric Department and gates for the airport will be presented. During reports of city officials, boards and committees, Park & Recreation Board President Doug Barnes will be giving a report from their meeting held last week. Alderman Mike Whitley will then present recommendations from the Utility Committee meeting held last week. Whitley along with Alderman Bill Riley, Jim Mc Daniels and Jim Jackson, would also like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the city. Mayor Gary Brown will then give his comments followed by the introduction of Bill #3089, an ordinance to authorize the mayor to execute an agreement between the City of Salem and the Meramec Regional Planning Commission for technical assistance to facilitate town hall meetings for planning the revitalization downtown program. In new and miscellaneous business, Waste Management is requesting that Spring Clean-Up Weeks be April 9th and April 16th. After the approval of bills, the City of Salem Board of Alderman will then go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

Natalie Howard scored 17 points and Kirsten Stephens added 16 more to help lead the Salem Lady Tigers to a 52-35 win over Union Monday night to win the first round of district play in Owensville. Allison Jones added 10 points and captured nine rebounds for Salem who improve to 20-5 on the year. They will be facing the Lady Eagles of Sullivan on Wednesday night at 7:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio or listen online at www.ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will face the St. James Tigers tonight in the first round of the district play at Owensville. Salem enters the game with a 15-9 record and suffered only two losses after January 1^st. One of the losses came to St. James. You can hear the game tonight starting at about 5:45 with Tiger Talk and Coach Travis Wrightsman followed by the play by play at 6:00. The Salem Tigers Winter Sports Banquet will be held on March 6^th with the meal beginning at 6:30 followed by the awards ceremony. At the banquet, the SCA Champion Boys and Girls Basketball Teams will be saluted as well as the cheerleaders.

St. Louis Cardinal Baseball will begin airing their spring training games on KSMO Radio beginning on March 3^rd and 4^th.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers, coming off their biggest win of the year over Oklahoma State, will host Oklahoma tonight starting at 6:00. KSMO will tape delay the game and it will be played back after the Salem Tigers district game in Owensville. Missouri is 16-9 on the year and 5-7 in the Big 12.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight as they will try to get back to the .500 mark with a win tonight. The Blues are 10 points out of a playoff spot with 22 games remaining. The Blues have won three straight games. The game will NOT be heard on KSMO Radio due to prior commitments to the Salem game and Missouri Tigers game.

Funeral services for Donna McCauley of Steelville will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Shirley Mae Meschke of Rolla, age 79, will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Family Life Center.

Graveside services for Ronald Edward Smith of Crescent City, CA, formerly of Salem, age 70 will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Dry Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
